MN: Pioli and Maldini convinced by Zaniolo – Roma open to sale at €40m

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in Nicolo Zaniolo and there might be the margins to make an operation with Roma materialise, a report claims.

Zaniolo is a player with immense potential but he has been limited by two very serious injuries in recent years and has also been used in a variety of different roles from a tactical point of view that have not helped his continuity.

MilanNews report that Stefano Pioli and Paolo Maldini are fans of the player and they are well aware that a move to the Rossoneri could help the player to return to the levels of his early days, and Roma for their part could open to the idea of a sale.

They are struggling with the renewal of Zaniolo’s contract, which is expiring in 2024, and their asking price is currently around €40m. It is unlikely that Maldini and Massara can pay that amount, but Zaniolo’s will could make a difference.

      1. What are you, his agent?
Two ACLs is a big red flag. Sure he has talent, but he needs to come cheap with the risk you would be taking to sign him.

        1. Ask Maldini the same question, is he his agent as he wants to buy him for Milan? You are special, but not in a way Zaniolo is a special player.

  1. What exactly convince them. I have faith in Maldini and Massara, they know the best what they do. But he is injury prone and the same for Renato Sanchez. The goals and assists from Zaniolo are less. Hope to be wrong. But don’t sacrifice Rebic for him

  2. This is one time where I hope Roma ask for a lot of money so Milan backs out.
There is so many red flags with this player.
2 ACL injuries. Doesn’t matter how more advanced today medicine is, I don’t know any player that has returned to playing on the same level from before the ACL surgery.
His attitude. He has that Cassano, Balotelli petulant behavior. 9 yellow, 2 red cards this past season( would lead Milan in both categories). Most times lazy on the field, bad body language .
Most importantly where would he play? He plays as a 2nd striker in 2 man front for Roma. If Milan continues to play 4231 he doesn’t really fit anywhere. He isn’t a 10 and his work rate, defensive contribution and running back is not suitable for the right wing side. Our right backs will be exposed like we haven’t seen them be exposed since Milan got rid off Suso

    1. You do know Ibrahimović is in top 5 players by red cards in the last 20 years? So, your idea is we don’t need players with character? I mean we won Serie A because of Ibrahimović, his personality and hard working which lifted everyone else. And I don’t think he is worse defensively than Messias, while offensively he can actually dribble past players. And he will obviously play RW like he did most of the season at Roma.

      1. You do know a big reason why Milan lost the scudetto in 2012 ,to an inferior Juventus team , was Zlatan being suspended for several games because he slapped a Napoli player.
Every player has a CHARACTER, Zaniolo, like Zlatan, has a bad character. Zlatan could get away with it because he was also a great player, something Zaniolo is not.
He is worse than Messias defensively and offensively. Messias might not be great defensively but he is better than Zaniolo because he puts the effort and tries. And in what world is Zaniolo a better dribbler than Messias? Have you even seen Zaniolo play before or you just arguing for the sake of arguing? Zaniolo is fast but he can’t dribble.
And no he didn’t play RW with Roma because Roma doesn’t play with wingers, they played 352.
2 goals , 2 assists, 2 red cards. That’s what he did this season.
Watch the games tries to learn it than come back commenting about it

  3. Wait a minute arjen robben was a injury prone n real gave up on him, then Bayern earn alot from him, just get delafeu as his back up

  4. Maldini et Masssara connaissent mieux que quiconque le Milan et les joueurs dont le club en a besoin. Donc, faisons les confiance.

  5. My only hope that Roma Will put high asking price for zaniolo so AC Milan don’t target him anymore. He is not good RW or AMF , he is more like second striker ( we don’t need SS now)

  6. I love all your opinions and they are correct but I also know that Maldini and Massara know all about that too. The price is only what am really concerned about and I won’t want and of Rebic or saelamakers going the other way but I sincerely would prefer Spurs Bergwin.

  7. I always liked Zaniolo’s potential- but given his injury history – this is a huge risk and one I’m not sure we should take. We need guarantees on the RW and I am not sure Zaniolo currently offers that. And for 40M we could buy a player without the injury history. That being said if M&M are convinced so much that they would offer 40M and/or cash + Rebic….then I guess we have to trust their judgement. It could turn out to be an amazing signing OR a huge disaster lol. I think we all would hope it’s the former. Fingers crossed.
