MN: Romagnoli set to be thrown in at the deep end – seven games beckon in less than a month

By Oliver Fisher -

Alessio Romagnoli has only just returned to training with the rest of the squad after recovering from injury, but he could be thrown straight in at the deep end.

According to MilanNews, the Milan captain looks set to start against Inter in next weekend’s derby out of necessity given the current crisis in the defensive department, with Leo Duarte, Mateo Musacchio and now Matteo Gabbia out after the latter tested positive for COVID.

Romagnoli could even end up playing seven games in less than a month if the situation does not improve, obviously depending on the recovery of the other three players, which is not good for any hopes of gradually phasing him back in after a difficult injury.

Romagnoli though will not back down from the challenge and is one of the leaders of the dressing room. Pioli, therefore, will welcome back a prized piece of the squad, in the hope that there will soon be some continuity in the rearguard.
