MN: The value of a ‘veteran’ – why Morata is so important to Milan

It was a summer of change for AC Milan in terms of the players who left, and the players that arrived. Today, they are without several of the more experienced players from the past few years, and so the weight of experience rests on one man’s shoulders – Alvaro Morata.

During the summer Milan lost Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer with both leaving the club at the end of their contracts. Additionally, they lost Alessandro Florenzi through a long-term injury, which means there is only one veteran, as Milan News states.

The veteran in question is Morata, and the report suggests that provides some exceptional value for the Rossoneri. Not only can he play an important role in the environment of the club, but he also is a fantastic player who has won the Champions League twice and won the European Championship as the captain.

In the former competition, the Spaniard has a fantastic record, contributing 40 times in 82 games – which is a fantastic output. During this time, he has averaged a goal every 168 minutes, which again is an outstanding stat, and for this reason, Milan will be looking to their new striker for guidance.

Starting against Liverpool tonight, the Diavolo will be hoping he can keep his own streak going to inspire them to victory – he has not lost against Virgil Van Dijk in his career.
