MN: Why Milan decided not to improve their offer for Thuram after Inter’s move

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were aware of Inter’s pursuit of Marcus Thuram and the fact that they had offered him a higher salary but decided not to match it, a report claims.

MilanNews have provided the background on how Milan went from frontrunners in the race to sign Thuram to missing out on him entirely with a move to Inter now seemingly on the cards.

The Rossoneri management were waiting for an answer from the striker who they had identified as the right profile to strengthen the attacking department.

After he said no to PSG and RB Leipzig there was an optimistic feeling, with Moncada and Furlani feeling that they had done everything possible to be able to convince the player in terms of salary and the plans for him.

However, Inter moved strongly as they need to replace Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku. Their economic proposal was around €6.5m net per year for five years, plus commissions and a hefty signing bonus too.

Milan were informed of the bid from the Nerazzurri, but chose not to go back with a higher offer than the €5m per year they put on the table, deciding not to go beyond the ‘value’ that was initially decided by the sports area

The fact remains that Milan have missed out on another target, and they are already working on other names of which several are on the list.

    1. “Milan were informed of the bid from the Nerazzurri, but chose not to go back with a higher offer than the €5m per year they put on the table, deciding not to go beyond the ‘value’ that was initially decided by the sports area”
Seems pretty clear to me. They thought he was worth only 5 mil.

      1. Sure, 40M in transfer fees and wages will make more sense for some other player. 😀 Or is Colombo the striker for next season? Or Giroud is the first choice still? 😀

    2. Whatever to get your mind ease on getting thru your day, boy. Whatever the reason and justification, the thing that we can’t deny is this new wave of management was beaten and pranked in front of their nose like a noob. Maybe next time around, they should get Pioli to call their target 3 times a day after meal as clearly it works magical.

    1. It says because Inter offered more and Milan didn’t up their offer from 5m as the reason being that they think that’s the value for the player.

Anyways well here’s the thing..when ur competing with other clubs sometimes u need to pay to land the player. All those missed targets when M&M were in charge are likely due to our offers being too low. It still hasn’t changed. Other clubs can offer more

  1. They should get Mauro Icardi.
He was great at Inter and he just had great season on loan in Turkey.
Still only 30 and only has 1 year left on his contract. We could probably get him for less than 20 mil.
He is a beast inside the box and he would like nothing more but to stick it to his old club.
His game will age well since it’s mostly based on smart movement inside the box. He doesn’t do much outside the box but if he gets service he will score.

      1. Couple years?
If healthy he can have 4.5 good years. Look at Giroud. At age 35 and 36 he had double digit goal seasons and he is, nor he was ever, the prolific striker icardi is.

    1. Icardi?!
      Oh..Jesus F***ing Christ!
When I hear “fans” like this stating their “opinion”, it makes me wanna stop watching football forever!

      1. You are free to do whatever you wanna do.
Football will still be played and “fans” will still state their opinions with or without you watching football forever.

    2. problem is there isnt a lot of service to the box from milan players. our second best asists were in tonali and diaz (both 7) and they gone.
The way Milan plays we need Ibra- Giroud type not a poacher..

      1. If they sign a couple midfielders that can actually pass or cross, not just runners like Milan had this season, he will have someone to provide service to him.

    1. Paying no tranfer fee just wage 6.5mx4 years: 26m accummulated plus agent fee still cheaper than paying openda transfer fee 50m ++ wage and balogun 40m++ wage in couple months

  2. Wondering how this Financial fair play works when Inter is owing a lot of debt and can still spend this much. Making me to feel like Milan owners are bunch of yam heads.

  3. Yeah it makes sense to spend around 40M and pay that player wages. It will cost only more than this… 😀 I said that you can’t sign anyone with stupid limits and that is exactly what is happening. Others aren’t stupid, they will take the chance.

  4. You mean Milan didn’t offer more because they didn’t think he was worth more??? Really?? Jeezzz….. dont you think that is implied lol. The title suggests there is a more concrete reason, other than that they didn’t want to….

  5. LOLOLOLOLOLO

    Per Nicolo Shira:

    Marcus #Thuram’s bids

    🟥⬛️ #ACMilan: €5M + 1M as bonuses (2028)

    🟦⬛️ #Inter: €6M/year (2028)

🧐 The last race between Milan and Inter on the transfermarket was for Geoffrey #Kondogbia

    Way to close Georgio!!!!! 😭🤪😭🤪😭🤪😭🤪

  6. Actually, that is a good decision from Milan. Thuram isn’t really free. As far as I know, there is a hefty commisson involved and in reality, Thuram is NO WAY in hell worth 6mil/per. 5 mil was already stretching it. Just the fact that an average striker like Thuram earns that much shows just how scarce good strikers are.

We should just go for Balogun right away and close it.

    1. Yeah, Inter always fails with their striker signings. Every time. Just look at the bad players they’ve had there over the years.

  7. It’s hard to say whether Inter overpaid or not. Guess we’ll see what kind of numbers he puts up this coming season. But it seems to be a problem signing players on the “free” as they want sign-on bonuses, bigger salaries and higher agent commissions…

    Thuram chasing $$$

    1. Of course they do. EVERYONE knows that. Nothing is “free” per se. AND if your a sporting director and do not know that they you are massively INCOMPETENT.

So ya it’s more expensive than just the player salary – BUT it’s still a better option considering OUR unwillingness to spend $$$$ and lack of other available free options. So we should have gotten this deal done over pay or not. Beggars cannot be choosers. Just like we should sign Kamada ASAP because we don’t have the $ to purchase anyone else.

Now we have another hole to fill which will require even more $$$ – that we don’t have – unless we sell yet another player.

How ironic would it be if we needed up right back where we started – Arnatovic????? Hahahahaha! Kinda would be like poetic Justice and karma all rolled into one. Fkn shame.

    2. Thuram not just Chaing money. Read what DiMarzo said: Thuram informed Milan he wouldn’t be joining them, Inter were MORE CONVINCING.

It’s right there bro. Read it. All this mess Gerry engineered creates DOUBT and UNCERTAINTY. Players (internally and externally) now question the project or lack therof and the direction of the club. If you can’t see that sorry to say you are blind. Using ONLY $ as an excuse is a convenient way to ignore the PERCEPTION the rest of the players and clubs around the world feel about Milan. So until that is changed, similar situations will occur IMO.

  8. 500k euro difference . AC Milan 5m euro + bonus 1m euro while IM 6m euro + 500k euro . IM also pay signing fee 10m euro for marcus . AC Milan dont want to surpass IM offer because ACM offer 5m euro + bonus 2m euro that will be equal to leao salary. There is many similar striker with same type with marcus playstyle but cost 30m euro above like : balogun,Jonathan David,Openda, lukaku, hugo eikitike. In my personal opinion it is huge steal by marotta ,signing marcus mean they can save budget from finding lukaku replacement ( chelsea asking price 40m euro ) while ACM will need to use budget for striker

  9. Inter have closed the deal for Thuram 🇫🇷✅

The club found an agreement with the player and are finalizing the details with his agent.

He’ll make €6-6.5M a year. He let Milan know he wouldn’t be joining them, Inter were more convincing.

    📰 Di Marzio

“Inter were more convincing” – LOLOLOLOLO.

What your telling me Georgio the magician couldn’t convince Thuram in our project and why it was better than Inter’s despite offering LESS $$$???

@Pioli where u at son???? LOLOLOLOLO. If this were Maldini who couldn’t convince Thuram to join the kid would be screaming at the top of his lungs! Now – Silence! Hahahaha!

Hilarious and sad all at the same fkn time

    1. In our PROJECT? What project? Buy free, sell for $$$$ while playing for a bag of peanut? lol No wonder he wasn’t convinced. lmfao

  10. Before thuram join inter :

Why waste time and money for this mediocre guy. He’s not worth more than 4m a year!

    After thuram join inter :

Why wouldn’t milan offer more than inter? This management is so dumb they can’t sign anyone without maldini.

My god the hypocrisy of these fans lol
