MN: Why Milan are not in the running for Frattesi and Milinkovic-Savic

By Oliver Fisher -

The summer transfer window has not yet officially opened but there are already some worries about AC Milan’s transfer policy, a journalist has highlighted.

Pietro Mazzara has written for MilanNews that the ‘operational silence’ on the market is difficult to decipher and interpret. Every day there are names like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Davide Frattesi linked with rivals Inter and Juventus.

That causes fans to ask what Milan’s plans are, but the Rossoneri management are not interested in profiles like theirs because their costs are considered too high when factoring in the transfer fee required and the salary.

Even though the Lazio star would be the ideal player raise the level of the midfield in terms of quality and attacking output, he remains a ‘dream’ because of the costs involved.

Instead, it seems that Milan are looking for free transfers that only impact on the wage bill and leave more room for manoeuvre for other acquisitions.

  1. I really dont care who it is as long as someone does come. Someone to fill the gap of Kessie.
I’ll add that Kessie also came on a 2 year loan with obligation to buy..
They should do a similar operation if money is such a problem.
Koopmeiners seems like a machine and Atalanta does love to sell their stars

    1. The two year loans with obligation to buy has been banned as a form to buy players by fifa last year so that option doesnt excist anylonger.

      1. i checked that and its true.
But you can always work around. 1y dry loan and then 1 year loan with obligation to buy

        1. Yeah but because its banned its probably largely because they doesn’t want clubs to circumvent the ffp ruleset so not sure its the best to openly basically do the same but no idea how fifa would view it.

          1. a small add on, we wouldnt have any protection either because if the player is a success then they can just keep or sell at higher price .
Either way it will be interesting to see how the mercato will pan out if our funds are as limited as some reports suggests,

          2. I never liked that anyway.. Feels like taking advantage of the “smoller” clubs. 2 year loan means 2 years when their player is raising value and probably giving good games towards the club he on loan from

  2. Easy. The strategy of ACM is to make a lucky-punch and sign some gem for free. Under the age of 21 of course with world-class potential, 10 years of experience and familiarity with Serie A.

If that is not realistisk no money will be spend.

F*ck Gerry, the only broke “billionaire”

    1. So sad to have the same recruiting strategy as the teams promoted from Serie B when you just came out the UCL semi-finals. I think Pioli is not sleeping good, he’s the next fuse in line if things don’t go well. Please Moncada do your magic.

      1. I agree. BUT Pioli seems to be part of the problem. This is what he asked for. He agreed w the Redbird YOUTH policy and hasn’t spoken up – he hasn’t demanded ESTABLISHED players. He is content w young inexperienced players apparently. So now if they don’t pan out and they don’t win again he is right to be fired. But knowing Redbird they will probably still keep Pioli around. WHY – as long as he doesn’t ask for too much $ and doesn’t complain about ownership spending $$ they will keep him – because these owners do NOT care about wining Titles – only PROFIT. Clear as day. If they cared about wining titles we would have signed ESTABLISHED players like SMS and Berardi IN ADDITION to some younger talent like Guler. But this is not the Rebird way. PROFIT over Titles. Shameful

        1. I would sign Orsolini instead of Berardi, but Milan should sign both Frattesi and SMS + one of Zaniolo, Orsolini or Berardi.

          1. It’s just too much money for them. It’s easy to count someone else’s money…. It’s smart not to overpay then be debt-ridden like Inter currently. Frattesi and SMS won’t come cheap when you figure the costs, agent commission, wages.

          2. Overpay what? SMS is a 50M+ player that can be purchased for under 30M this season. Frattesi will go to Inter for 35M and they will have offers of 60-70M for him soon. That is a stupid investment and overpaying? Who exactly will be overpaid? Always the same nonsense without any meaning from people like you, can you write something factual and in line with the real world?

        2. Pioli did help develop Theo, Leao, Tonali, etc. Who were they before Milan? Pioli did deliver a Scudetto to the club after 11 years of irrelevance…. And yet you criticize the hand that feeds you? You’re all sorts of special…

          1. Pioli doesn’t feed anyone but his family. Anyhow, why are you mentioning those “overpaid” players? Leao was paid 40M, clearly overpaid at that time. Tonali, same. Theo? Also. You literally replied above with a nonsense and then you mention the players that were paid a similar amount like Frattesi and SMS would cost. With Frattesi being a young player that Milan should sign. It is clear it is random babbling…

          2. LOL. @ACm1899 – If you think 30M is “too much money”for a player of SMS’s calibre – not surprisingly – you know NOTHING about football kid. And for a club like with the history of Milan and just coming off a season where we made semi finals of UCL and pocketed an extra 120M from it – IF we cannot spend 30M for a player like SMS we have no business being in Serie A and Redbird should sell the team. Your an idiot and nothing but a foolish blind sheep.

And why did Tonali, Leao, Theo, etc… all develop dip$hit? Could it be because they were given more than one season to develop and we were patient with all of them?? Same cannot be said for the likes of Adli, CDK, Aster, etc…so if Pioli gets all the credit in your eyes for developing Theo, Leao and Tonali then it stands to reason he is due all of the blame for failing to develop CDK, Aster and Adli. Can’t have it both ways you bowlegged donkey

    2. He’s not a billionaire, he just runs a company. His ‘net worth’ (urgh) is USD200m.

Milan aren’t owned by Gerry Cardinale, they’re owned by RedBird Capital.

  3. Milinkovic-Savic is one of the best players in Serie A, he would not cost over 30M, probably could get him for less. Too expensive. And Frattesi is the perfect partner for Tonali. I was wrong, Atalanta will have better transfers than Milan. They would buy Frattesi and re sell him for 50-80M in 2 years. Milan cannot even do that…

  4. ” it seems that Milan are looking for free transfers that only impact on the wage bill and leave more room for manoeuvre for other acquisitions”

What other acquisitions? Surely SMS would count as one of these other acquisitions? Unless we are thinking of signing free transfers to leave room for more cheap youth products? This article seems to be a contradiction of sorts. What are we saving the money for if not to occasionally buy the odd world class player when they’re available at bargain fees

  5. The important thing to do first is securing a move for the dead weight, as long as rebic, origi, florenzi, messi, ballo still on the Ballance sheet, we can’t move

  6. I don’t blame Milan. The market is overinflated with one season two game average players. Not worth the figures quoted. These days a 11goal midfield player has the world at his feet…pure madness. Look for the promising young players on the cheap and nurture them. Leave the irrationality to the clubs that want to spend. Up until there is a new Kaka to be had, don’t loose sleep over a Zaniolo or Fratessi that still have to set the scene alight.
