Sky: Morata to miss Cagliari clash with ‘severe head injury’ after training collision

After scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu, AC Milan will be without Alvaro Morata this weekend, after the striker suffered an injury in training.

Spirits are high going into this weekend’s fixture, expectedly so after beating Real Madrid in the Champions League. However, some injury news has arrived this morning which may lower confidence somewhat.

As Sky (via Milan News) reports, Alvaro Morata was rushed to hospital this morning after suffering a ‘severe head injury’ during the training session, colliding with Strahinja Pavlovic. For this reason, he will ‘definitely’ be unavailable for this weekend’s fixture.

The report continues, stating that the striker has already had an MRI scan which came back negative, and he will continue to be monitored hourly at the hospital in Legano, which is standard practice for injuries of this kind.

Reports had suggested earlier today that the striker could miss the game to be given a chance to rest by Paulo Fonseca, so the plans to be without Morata are not brand new. However, the Portuguese head coach will be forced to make a decision rather than making it on his own terms.

All three strikers – Tammy Abraham, Luka Jovic and perhaps even Francesco Camarda – will be eligible, and imaginably Abraham will be the one to lead the line this weekend.

  1. Pavlovic is probably our worst CB signing since Caldara. Reckless, constantly out of position, tactically inept, just muscles, no brain. What a complete was of money. But hey, that goes for 90% of RedBurd’s algorithm signings. Aside from Pulisic, Fofana and TJ, all the rest could’ve as easily transferred to Lazio or Fiorentina and no one would have though it was strange or anything.

    1. Your comparison is nonsense, Caldara is the worst signing in a few decade for Milan, very injury prone and never done nothing, literally nothing. Meanwhile that kid Pavlovic have an up and down situation in Milan. Its only his 1st season, lot of room to improve and learn not only tactical but also the language. The problem is people comparing him with The Great Stam at the beginning, so the expectation is too high. And He’s a National Team Player, so its very different from Caldara. 1st season is to learn everything for him, we can judge him in 2nd season.

    2. Your hate for Management knows no bounds.
Pulisic, Fofana, Tijji, would be 3 of Redbird’s 12 First team signings in the last 2 years.

The CDK year (22/23) signings were all on Maldini because he had the control of the mercato purse.

3 of 12 is 25%. Potentially Musah, Chuk and Okafor can come good as well, which would bump it up to 50%.

Your 90% failure rate ain’t mathing.

      1. if im being honest chuk and musah hasnt been that good okafor has been ok i would not say they have been waste of money but not really good

      2. Fofana, Pav, Emerson, Abraham, Morata, Jiminez, Pellegrino, Musah, Chuk, Puli, RLC, Romero, Tijji, Okafor, Jovic, Terra. That’s 15+ signings and you can only say 1 was absolutely a great signing, and two others that seem decent? That’s a 80% fail rate so that’s closer to OP number.

        1. 2 others decent? Now you’re not being honest.
          Pulisic was a GREAT signing.
Fofana has been a very good signing. Reijnders has taken some time but is now proving to be a good signing. RLC had a good year last season but does not seem to fit well into Fonseca’s scheme.
Both Okafor and Jovic made good contributions off the bench last season and Okafor has continued that this season. Not everyone needs to be a starter to be considered a good signing. It’s nice to have quality off the bench, something we never had under the previous management. Even Chuku has contributed well so far this season.
Musah again has made good contributions and shows a ton of potential, just need to find the right role for him.
Chuku has improved his play this season.
It’s really too early to tell for Pavlovic and even Emerson. Emerson had a rough start but has been getting better every game.
Jiminez is a kid with a ton of potential, are you seriously judging that signing already.
Some signings you get to start an immediate impact, some you get to add depth off the bench and some you sign to develop over time. You cannot judge all by the same standards.
I would say Pulisic = Great
Fofana and Reijnders very good signings.
Morata, Okafor , RLC and Musah good.
          Jovic, Chuku, Abraham decent
Pellegrino and Romero not good signings, but it’s not like they spent a lot to get them.
Too early to tell for Pavlovic, Emerson and Jiminez.
At least there are no Bakayokos or Origis in there.
I’ll take these last 2 mercatos over the previous 2 for sure.

          1. Basically what you’re judging on is mostly last year. If the players continued into this year their form I’d say you have a point. But some of that’s on management imo for poor hiring/firing choices.
I think we can all universally agree on who the great signing is (Puli). That was pretty obvious. One great signing from 200m+ and 17 signings, let that sink in…almost two whole teams, yet we’re incomplete..but I digress.
And I’m sure we’d all agree who the next best two are..whether I call them decent or good or you call them whatever, it would be Fofs and Deer boy. So that’s 3 who made the cut out of 15+ or so. But then you tried to squeeze water out of a stone by saying Musah was a good signing lol 😂 😂 😂 who you trying to fool? RLC too, before he used to show up once every 5 games, now he doesn’t even show. But again it’s to my point above on hiring and firing…
You had a point in that Okafor and Jovic are/were good subs..but only last year. We re-signed Jovic as our 9, brought two more strikers and then left him out of the UCL list. Hmmm. Ok. Okafor has 1 in 9 which is worse than last year.
So yea in conclusion based on your own words the only “great and v. good signings” from your own list were 3 out of 15+…thanks for agreeing 🤭😂🤣🤣🤣

          2. IKWYDLS First of all your reading comprehension is not very good as I clearly list 7 signings as good to great. And there is a difference between good and decent. ANd I’m sure you know that but you just don’t want to give any credit.
What’s the poor hiring/ firing? Fonseca? It takes some time for a new coach and players to get on the same page. You might end up regretting that comment. He already has 2 huge wins this season against Inter and Real Madrid.
And yes RLC was important for this team last season. 10 goals and was voted MVP of the team for the month of January last season, so yeah I would say that was a good signing.
Like I said, compared to the previous 2 mercatos these were definitely a success.

          3. Yea you dont realize I’m agreeing with you on your first two tranches (your “vgood” is my “decent” for instance). Seems u don’t read, not the other way around. I guess I have to spell it out but I disagree with saying Musah is a good signing so I don’t consider him in the “pass” column. As was RLC (somewhat). Musah is a very every expensive backup. He comes off the bench at 20mil. One good game against real doesn’t reverse all things that are not good with the player. And even if u put in Jovic and Okafor (much worse this year compared to last year) that’s what ? 5? So……70% fail rate???
U don’t have to convince me that Musah is good. I know he’s not. He has time though and that’s the best thing for him. The others though….

    3. Come on, people here on both fronts of hate/love for the management. melted over ‘the one quality transfer we did this summer so far’. First, he needs more time so we have an accurate assessment and second, it’s really easy to blame for bad transfers in hindsight. This is not a Royal situation, where no one knows yet why we targeted him, all fans were hyped.

Also, we have no idea how the trauma happened and if anyone acted badly or it was a misfortunate incident in a contact sport. If it’s not serious trauma it can keep Morata out of the national team again..

    4. 23yo from a different league playing his first not even 6mo’s… You’re a stellar judge of talent, aren’t you?

Musah hadn’t improved much, yet played lights out against Madrid…

There’s this thing called growth and improvement and it happens at a different pace for everyone…

    5. I’m going to jump on this too. Caldara played a total of 35 minutes or something like that. Had terrible injury luck and even worse injury management by Milan. Caldara was significantly more money than Pavlovic too.
Both Caldara and for that matter Conti were probably worse defensive signings Milan have made. (I’m not making the argument Pavlovic has been good)

  2. I don’t like the sound of “severe head injury” and of “rushed to a hospital.” Even if the MRI was negative, this could have long-lasting consequences; a bad concussion can take weeks to completely clear and the person can feel foggy, unsteady, lose balance, be confused, etc., all things that would hinder the performance of a footballer, especially an intelligent and hard-working one like Morata.

My primary concern is for Alvaro’s health, of course, and the secondary concern is that he might miss several games which would affect our chances, given that he is very important to Milan.

Forza Alvaro, be well and recover as soon as possible, but don’t let anybody rush you back prematurely before you are fully recovered; concussions can be very dangerous.

  3. Oh, and I should add: aggressively blaming Pavlovic here like ACM 1899 did is just disgusting behavior. First, we don’t even know how it happened; for all we know, maybe Alvaro ran into Strahinja. Or even if they both ran into each other or Strahinja ran into Alvaro, these things happen for no fault of a specific individual’s. Football is a dangerous contact sport.

And the hatred towards Pavlovic is also misguided. Even though he is big so he looks older, he is actually very young (23); this is his first Milan season; he needs time to improve and to further learn his trade, and while he has had very bad games, he has also had very good games.

The people bashing him now are the same ones who bashed the management for not giving CDK a chance beyond his first season. So, it’s desirable to wait for CDK to improve, but it is not desirable to wait for Strahinja to improve???

CDK actually was given tons of opportunities, many minutes, many games; he played 40 games with AC Milan!!! 32 in Serie A, 6 in the UCL, 1 in Coppa Italia and 1 in the Supercoppa Italiana. He also played 2 friendlies with Milan and 9 games with his national team. And you know how many assists and goals he added in those 40 + 2 + 9 games? Zero goals, 1 assist!!! So, he played a total of 51 games; 40 official and 2 friendlies for Milan, and 9 games with his national team, and had a grand total of… ONE assist and no goals. One lousy assist, and actually one when the ball just bounced on him and went to the scorer; he didn’t even deserve to be granted that assist!!!

People still say he wasn’t given opportunities which is ridiculous. He objectively did worse than how Pavlovic is doing, who as a defender, has one goal for Milan in 7 games played, and 43% clean sheets. But since CDK was brought in by Paolo Maldini, people gave him a pass for his putrid first season but are unwilling to give the same consideration to Pavlovic (who actually hasn’t had a putrid season yet; more like an up-and-down one), simply because he was signed by RedBird. That’s not fair.
