Massimiliano Allegri had signed off on the arrival of Axel Disasi, according to a report, but AC Milan’s management opted to abandon the pursuit instead.

Whether that was the right call or not remains to be seen, but one of the arguments is that Davide Bartesaghi can also play to the left in the back three. That would then mean Allegri has two deputies to rely on, three if you include David Odogu.
Why Milan said no
According to Matteo Moretto, sharing an update on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Milan did evaluate the idea of adding a centre-back. It became clear that Chelsea’s Axel Disasi was the only concrete option, but in the end they opted not to sign him.
“Allegri had absolutely not rejected the idea of Disasi, on the contrary, he was proactive. After internal evaluations, it became clear that Disasi was perhaps the only concrete name they could go for.
“Igli Tare carried out the negotiations, both with the player and Chelsea, and Allegri also agreed to proceed. However, the management decided not to continue with the negotiations because they wanted to place trust in De Winter.
“With just 15 games remaining, they didn’t consider a signing necessary, also thanks to the great growth of Bartesaghi who can also play as a centre-back,” he stated.

It will be such a lucky gamble if they make it through a season of 352 with essentially 4 CBs that they want to use. In the first half of the season they were using the same 3 in almost every game.
So far they have been very lucky with minimal suspensions and injury.
I can understand the point that by the time you get to the end of January, there really isn’t many games left when you are not in any cups.
A loan may have reduced the risk of running so thin at the back. Hopefully the CBs can stay fit and avoid suspensions.
