Moretto: Milan and Atalanta battling for Verona sensation likened to Yamal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to look into opportunities to strengthen the squad available to Daniele Bonera with Milan Futuro, and have set their sights on Alphadjo Cissè.

According to what is being reported by Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Milan and Atalanta are both keen on signing Cissè, the 17-year-old attacking midfielder who currently plays for Hellas Verona and is regarded as a very bright talent.

The Rossoneri are trying to advance in negotiations with the sporting director of Verona Sean Sogliano, who is personally managing things. As mentioned, he would be a signing for the youth sector, most likely the Futuro or Primavera.

With 20 goals and three assists in 56 appearances over the last two seasons in the Primavera, Cissè racked up excellent numbers playing as a left winger and second striker with Sammarco’s Verona, attracting several top-tier Serie A teams.

Paolo Zanetti decided to assess him in preseason with the senior Verona squad and he is showing all his abilities having scored goals against Rovereto and against Virtus Verona. He has been likened by some to Lamine Yamal.

The teenager has been with Verona since 2020 when he was 12, and he made his senior debut for the club during a 3–1 win over Ascoli in the Coppa Italia last season. He made his Serie A debut in a 2-2 draw against Inter back in May 2024.

  1. Having a Futuro side could make things more enticing. Looks like we are seriously pursuing him. I don’t think we should comparing anyone to Yamal though.

  2. Few years ago we should have challenge Atalanta for Teun Koopmeiners at 14 milions euros. Today Atalanta ask 60 milions for Teun. Milan two years ago should have paid 14 million and not leave Koopmeiners to Atalanta. Atalanta must not be allowed to do such deals. This kid from Verona could be a case like Koopmeiners. If I were the owner of Milan, I wouldn’t let clubs like Atalanta develop by acquiring talented youngsters and then sell them for big sums. I would kill the competition of clubs like Atalanta .

    1. You’re only saying this after the fact because it’s a transfer that happened to work out well for them. There are loads of others that didn’t work out. 14m on an unproven player is really really risky unless your scout knows what he’s doing. Ours doesn’t Atalanta’s does.
Would u pay $14m for this kid? I highly doubt but he could be Lamal or Niang in the future and that’s the risk. Plus at Atalanta they get to grow. At our club we have a duty to win titles each year.

      1. I didn’t say 14 million for this kid from Verona. He should be paid what he is doing now. Atalanta paid 14 million for Koopmeiners and that’s what we had to do then and take him. Koopmeiners was captain of his team for two seasons in a row in the Dutch championship, he was a player who was preparing to enter the Netherlands team, it was not a risk to give him 14 million two years ago. Atalanta gave and won. With this kid from Verona were making an analogy with the Koopmeiners case

        1. Again, you’re saying that now….ONLY because Koops worked out at a club where developing players for profits is their MO. (Btw I’m saying this as a person who said to get Koops a few years back too, him and DeRoon). For every Koops there’s a Malinovksy

  3. AC Milan should also get danish/nigerian/english player Chido Obi as well, super prolific 16 year old striker and to my understanding will be able to be picked up for free from arsenal. Has both played for the english international youth team and the danish one but seems to have chosen the latter.

    last seasons stats
26 games played 32 goals 3 assists in 1.673′ minutes played for arsenals u18 team.

Get him and add him to our primavera,

      1. If you are referring to Obi I would leave him in the primavera for a year as we probably could use a dominant striker there after Camardas promotion to the u23 futuro but overall it wouldn’t hurt to have two so productive strikers in my book.
