Moretto: Milan have ‘great interest’ in Udinese midfielder – exits could facilitate move

By Oliver Fisher -

Another source is reporting that AC Milan have a strong interest in signing Lazar Samardžić from Udinese this summer, and sales could free space to land him.

According to Matteo Moretto of Relevo, Milan are ‘really interested’ in signing Samardzic. It is a name that the management are following with ‘great interest’ and for whom negotiations could begin in the coming weeks.

The Rossoneri management however first wants to focus on some exits to free up space in the middle of the pitch and also to generate some funds, with two stand-out names as potential candidates to depart.

Moretto adds that Geoffrey Moncada and the directors will listen to offers for Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega, who have had fringe roles over the past couple of seasons and do not seem to be a big part of Paulo Fonseca’s plans either.

As we have seen both for his club and his national team, Samardzic has been used various areas of midfield and also in the playmaker role. He is a potential ‘wild card’ that could allow Fonseca to vary his formations.

The Serbia international has very different characteristics to Youssouf Fofana of Monaco who is another target, which is why – with a sale or two – he could potentially arrive as well as the Frenchman.

  1. Samardzic is nothing like Fofana. They don’t even play the same position. At the same token, I’d welcome both. Richard Rios was also mentioned.

    1. Must add we would have one of the strongest midfields in the Serie A if we sign both. But I still think we need strictly a DM which neither are.

And there is also a question about Samardzic’s agent. They pulled a fast one on Inter demanding higher wages… what’s to say they won’t try that same stunt with us? Great player, bad agent. Meh.

      1. It was his father who is his agent getting greedy over his own commission and ruining it. Hopefully they have learned their lesson

  2. Maybe Pavlovic arrival will help with Samardzics, or vice versa? Anyhow, if both Samardzics and Fofana arrives and Adli and Pobega leaves, we would have one of the strongest midfields in the league. One able to match those of Juventus and Inter.

Reijnders-Fofana-Loftus Cheek as starting midfield and Samardzic-Bennacer-Musah as backup would certainly be a great midfield for a long season.

      1. RLC is significantly better than Sama. He scores more, he is more physical, stronger in duels, better off the ball movements. Only quality of Sama is shooting from distance.

        1. You’re joking, right? Ruben has some qualities but Lazar has potential to become a complete midfielder. Obviously you play Lazar and bring on RLC when you need to keep the lead

          1. They can alternate for all I care. Neither has been consistent last season. But to bring either Rios or Lazetic you have to offload someone from the midfield.

I’d rather Pobega, but I think he ticks a quota. So it would have to be Adli.

  3. I will call this an upgrade if this should happen, with fofana and samadzic in and pobega – adli out, then we get palv for the defence and a good goal scorer, then we good to go,

And if the management give us a gift in mid field by adding another good destroyer in our midfield them we all good

  4. We need bennecer this season, we should renew him this season and we could sell him next season as i see a good season ahead of him

  5. I’m not convinced by Samardzic. He is an excellent shooter from distance, but I don’t see any other area where he excels. He is quite slow and not dynamic, not very press resistant, his defensive work is week. I would rather develop Adli.

  6. No all wrong Sarmadzic is far better than RLC as far as attacking midfield is concern RLC is a central midfield not at attacking midfield Pioli only used him but still he can’t control the tempo of the game so let’s Milan give udinese pobega, adli and RLC with money to purchase him immediately

  7. You can’t trust this guy!

Remember what he and his father did to Inter last year?
They come to their office in the last moment and told like ‘we want more money now’ lol

I would just focus on Fofana and then get Amrabat as a DM. Amrabat has probably the same price as this guy if not even less but Amrabat is a natural DM and can cover that hole left after Kessie’s departure
