Moretto: Milan midfield target hints at future move with agency switch

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan midfield target Khephren Thuram has changed agents so that he is now represented by the same company that his brother, Inter forward Marcus Thuram, is represented by.

As has been reported by Matteo Moretto for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, the French midfielder is now linked to his brother in a professional sense.

The fact that Inter’s Thuram has been thriving in Italy and Khephren has been linked with a move to Milan suggests that this change in representation could be with an Italian move in mind.

Regardless of the Italian link, a change of agent is often a sign that a player wants to make a move but does not trust their current agent to make it happen. Thuram was expected to leave Nice last summer but a move never materialised.

Moretto warns that there is unlikely to be any concrete news immediately from this change, but the player is known to be keen on a new role outside of Ligue 1. Based on how well Marcus has played for Inter, he has likely only heard good things about moving to the city.

Thuram would provide younger energy to the midfield, on the assumption that one or more players would be sold to make space.

  1. Sell Bennacer, sign Thuram.
    Sell Maignan, sign Di Gregorio.
Use the rest of the money available on Zirkzee, CB, a RB that can start and backup LB.

    1. Silly stuff. We bought 3 midfielders last summer. Buying another means we bought shît and need reinforcements there which isn’t a case at all..unless it’s a pure DM which we haven’t bought in a long time

      1. So It’s silly to buy another midfielder but then you say Milan should buy a defensive MIDFIELDER.
Thuram can be a DM. Players can develop, they are not finished product. He has the physical ability to play as a DM. He can learn how to play there, just like Pirlo learned how to play as a regista after playing as a CAM early in his career. Same with Hakan.
You don’t need a one trick pony who only knows how to kick and push people.
For a millionth time , inter doesn’t have a DM and they have the best midfield, defense and attack in serie A and some of the best in Europe.

          This. Play as a team and you don’t need a one-trick-pony (=DM).

        2. Guess we don’t need to buy a midfielder at all but need a proper coach.
          Go figure

We have 3 guys that can play DM with proper tactics, alas we are stuck at 505 until further notice

        3. If the logic that players can just learn to be in a new position if asked to do so, then why bother going for a midfielder at all this summer ? We could simply turn Musah (or even RLC if that is necessary) into a DM, after all he has strength, pace and stamina.
You keep refering to inter, but again all of inter’s midfielders know how to defend better than ours. Our best midfielder defensively wise is an out of shape Bennacer.
Pirlo learned to play as a deep-lying midfielder but when you have Gattuso and Ambrosini in front of you, defending is less of a problem.
When we say DM, it doesn’t necessarly mean a one-trick poney DM who simply know how to destroy, but a midfielder who knows how to tackle, intercept and position himself.
In my opinion, Hojberg is a much more interesting choice than Thuram.

          1. “When we say DM, it doesn’t necessarly mean a one-trick poney DM who simply know how to destroy, but a midfielder who knows how to tackle, intercept and position himself.”

Well… When we talk about players Milan actually can afford, that automatically rules out those non-one-trick-pony-DMs.

        4. Buying DM mean pioli will stay next season and he will using 4231 again, thats why double pivot need one DM , last season double pivot benna – tonali are easy for enemy team due to weak defensive atribute for both . This season our new midfield lack defensive atribute too . Adili – benna or pobega – tiji are disaster if pairing in double pivot . Needs time to training yunus become DM too , thats why ACM need instant DM as target transfer

    2. Bennacer is our top midfielder in terms of defense; he should be on the no sell list along with Theo, Leao, and Tomori

  2. They sold their only muscle player and bought bunch of runners and carriers. They now realised they need muscles so now they’ll sell their only brains. Next summer they’ll realise they need brains…

    1. Lol. Kessie the snake was unfortunately hard to replace. But we definitely eed more muscle in the midfield. Not sure this Thuram kid is the right profile tbh

  3. DC – Scalvini or Buongiorno
DL – Miranda, Dorgu or Gallo
DM – Ricci, Florentino Luis or Amrabat
    ST – Zirkzee
IMO, these are the only positions that really need reinforcement. Other positions depend on whoever is leaving

  4. This is the name or profile Milan should be looking for if we really want to upgrade our level. He’s (more than) fluent in playing both 433 our double pivot on 4231. His physicality is really something we desperately need (I thought RLC would fill this trait but until now he’s positioned into a more advanced role).

And mind you he’s still 23/24, so really suited our young squad kinda policy. But I think it’ll be extremely hard to get him in the end. Entering the last year of his contract, only means that many and many clubs (moreover EPL clubs) will be lining up for him.
