AC Milan are still expected to complete the signing of Matija Popović despite the late hijack attempt from Manchester City, a journalist has claimed.
A recent update from Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano suggested that the deal was under threat, with Milan trying to construct some kind of operation that saw Popovic go to Monza first, all while Manchester City try to disrupt things.
According to the latest from Moretto, Milan ‘have him in their grasp’ and the parties have been shaking hands for weeks. The teenager’s future depends solely and exclusively on the Rossoneri and the decision they make.
If Milan decides to fill their last non-EU spot then the deal is done but it depends on other potential mercato opportunities. Manchester City ‘are in contact with his entourage’ to take advantage if things were to fall apart.
However, Moretto adds that Milan ‘seem more inclined to advance and deposit his contract’ rather than walk away, but the ‘final decision will be made in the next few days’.
Popovic is available on a free transfer given that his contract with Partizan Belgrade is about to expire, and he is one of the most highly-rated prospects within Serbian football.
This kid fills the last non EU spot. Does that mean no to Guirassy and Adams?
