Mourinho discusses speculation Doherty’s arrival could push full-back towards Milan

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has poured cold water on speculation that Matt Doherty’s arrival pushes Serge Aurier closer to the exit door.

The Rossoneri have been strongly linked with a move for Aurier as directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara look to address what was a problem area last season.

Head coach Stefano Pioli found little consistency on the right side of his defence as both Davide Calabria and Andrea Conti did not find form week-in week-out, plus both were affected by suspensions and injuries.

Aurier is one of the players who has been repeatedly linked, but Sky Sports recently reported that talks have stopped for the time being due to differences between Spurs and Milan on the valuation of the player.

Now, Josè Mourinho has spoken out about rumours that the former PSG man could be shipped out due to Matt Doherty’s arrival from Spurs.

“We have signed a new full-back, Matt Doherty, to have more options and to improve the team,” he said (via MilanLive).

“I don’t want to sell Serge and competing with Doherty can only be a challenge for the player.”

Mourinho, however, did not rule out any possibility that Aurier could move: “If Aurier came to us with a proposal, we would talk about it.”
