Musacchio insists Milan are taking ‘confidence’ into derby against Inter

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan centre-back Mateo Musacchio has insisted he and his team-mates are experiencing a ‘beautiful moment’ ahead of Sunday’s derby.

The Rossoneri take on Inter on Sunday night, with the Nerazzurri currently sat 19 points up in the standings and haven found themselves in a Scudetto challenge.

However, Milan are slowly clawing back the gap to fourth place, and would no doubt relish the opportunity to put a dent in the title hopes of their city rivals and boost their own European aspirations.

Musacchio started during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona due to the fact Simon Kjaer was suffering with flu, but the Danish national team captain could come back into the starting XI for this weekend’s game.

He spoke to SportMediaset about the upcoming derby and the current state of the squad, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“We are in a good moment and there is confidence. We know we have to face a great team like Inter, but we want to have a great game,” Musacchio said.

“Ibrahimovic? He is a great player and he has shown it. For the team it is very important not only for the name, but for what he does on the field. Since he arrived the team has been doing very well and we arrive on Sunday in a beautiful moment. He is working to get to the game well and we hope he will be with us on Sunday.

“We know we have a difficult game, but we have confidence in our work and in the team and we want to make a great performance.”

The Argentine will be tasked with marking Romelu Lukaku, one of the in-form strikers in the league.

“He is a great striker, but we only think about ourselves,” Musacchio concluded.
