Napoli director Giovanni Manna reportedly had lunch with Massimiliano Allegri, who is his number one managerial target.

Corriere della Sera (via Il Napolista) report that there could be some big changes in head coaches around Serie A this summer. Napoli are leading the charge on this front because it could all begin with the departure of coach Antonio Conte.

Maurizio Sarri seemed the only candidate but he is hesitating because of the pressures of a possible return to Naples. He is tempted by Atalanta where he would be reunited with his friend Cristiano Giuntoli, with whom he worked side by side for three years right in the shadow of Vesuvius.

Allegri now Plan A

Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, knows his next move. As a longtime friend of Allegri, he recently went out to dinner in Milan with the coach and he’s already made the offer of him taking the Napoli job.

It’s no secret that before Conte decided to stay last year, Allegri had reached an agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis over a two-year contract. Conte’s stay was then almost forced, because De Laurentiis agreed to back him with an ambitious summer.

Even Kevin De Bruyne was bought precisely to make the fans forget Conte’s then-imminent departure, and Allegri gave his approval. Milan are stuck in their own period of corporate uncertainty and this could aid Napoli’s pursuit, even if there is talk of Gerry Cardinale wanting to keep Max.

    1. No but the optics are awesome aren’t they? “Hey Gerry, what’s the plan? Because I’ve got Napoli lined up”.

  1. Honestly

    Conte —> Azzurri
    Allegri—> Napoli
    Milan —> Iraola from Bournemouth

Realistically, I don’t think this would work because we wouldn’t give him the players that he needs to succeed.

  2. @Hudson, Iraola is a good shout. not sure the project will appeal to him though, because he’d need time to implement his ideas and get the club competing.

  3. Yea I agree. Knowing our management we wouldn’t give him the funds or the control in the market to succeed. Then the fan base would turn on him and demand his head on a platter. Tactically it could work, just look at Como. It’s a hope and dream really, but he’s out of contract at Bournemouth so why not try.
