Tiemoue Bakayoko

Sky: New midfielder could arrive as Pioli considers change in formation

Confirmations have arrived that AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is considering the switch to a three-man midfield, and a new player for that position could arrive.

According to what is being reported by Sky (via MilanEye), Pioli is pondering the move to playing three in midfield in the coming games, given that at present the team seem to be struggling to find the right balance in both phases.

Moreover, the potential exit of Tiemoue Bakayoko could actually unlock the incoming market for the Rossoneri, as the broadcaster claims that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara could then go for a new midfielder to replace the Frenchman.

However, if the Chelsea loanee were to remain at the club beyond the end of the month and reject any offers that might come his way, no signings will be sought in the winter mercato and any planned moves will then be postponed until the summer.

  1. So many players and no options, and if Bakayoko leaves than some young chieap player will arrive who won’t have impacrt, and all the other midfielders will remain that are not used in this system and won’t be used in 3 man midfield. Looks like there is no clue for the market. If we asume that this news is correct.

    1. Even if we got Messi next week, it would take 2-3 months minimum for Pioli to get him integrated into the team and his first start in the Rossoneri would be in May.

  2. I don’t see the point in replacing bakayoko, it’s not like he was been used, or the other players on the bench are being used.

  3. What midfielder can Milan get with the 1 million they would save by letting Bakayoko leave 5 months before his loan expires?
5 million burned on Bakayoko salaries to just sit on the bench.
Add the 5 mil Milan paid for the Ballo Toure transfer plus his salary to just sit on the bench,
Or 5 milion Milan paid to buy Florenzi plus giving him 3 mil a year to sit at home nursing one of his many injuries.
Imagine if that wasted money was used to resign Kessie and Romagnoli, and actually give Leao the salary he deserves.
As always the issue is not with the people providing the money but with the person who is foolishly spending the money.

    1. Last season, Bakayoko was brought to be Kessie’s backup, and he actually had a higher salary than Kessie.
Florenzi was brought to be Calabria’s backup, and he was getting paid more than both Calabria and Kalulu put together. He is still the highest paid of the 3.

    2. “Imagine if that wasted money was used to resign Kessie”

Kessie didn’t want to stay so end of story. Why do you insist on living in the past?

  4. I would love john mcginn at milan 😊 surely we wouldnt have to spend much on him. Billy gilmour would be a good loan option. Not sure if hes on loan thus year tho… John mcginn would do well in italy i reckon tho. Much better than any of our attacking midfield options. Salary surely wouldnt be much and we have europe to lure him in.

  5. Are we better managers than those actually in charge? How come we can see the team’s shortfalls, n they aren’t seeing them. No adequate backups for the goalkeeping position, midfield, left-back, attack, n, yet, we want to retain our series a title, play in the champions league, coppa Italia, friendlies, etc. Our owners are a bunch of jokers. With all that the team is going thru, we are still waiting for some deadwood to leave before we can get a replacement.
