GdS: New San Siro project takes a step forward but Cardinale keeps Sesto option open

By Oliver Fisher -

While a lot of the current focus is on the transfer market, the issue of the new stadium project is also nearing a crucial phase.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) speak of small steps forward with regards to the new San Siro project after a meeting took place at Palazzo Marino (the Council headquarters) yesterday between the president of Milan, Paolo Scaroni, and the CEO of Inter.

Mayor Beppe Sala and the coordinator of the public debate Andrea Pillon were there and they reassured Scaroni and Antonello that the public debate will begin in September and will not go beyond October, which is a positive step because there was a real fear of seeing everything slip into 2023.

The next move is that the clubs will have to prepare a new dossier which will then actually be the subject of the debate. This will consist of about eight public meetings in which citizens or associations will be able to intervene on the issue of the demolition of the San Siro and the new stadium itself.

Despite this, Gerry Cardinale and the new owners RedBird Capital are anxious to get things moving so they are keeping the idea of a new stadium in Sesto San Giovanni alive. In his past visits to Milan, Cardinale went to the site of the former Falck steelworks to look at the feasibility of the project.

All the possibilities and options are open to reach what is now a concrete objective: to have a new stadium as soon as possible.
