Romano: Newcastle ‘advancing’ for Botman who is ‘open’ to Premier League move

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan risk missing out on Lille defender Sven Botman as Newcastle United are pushing hard to complete a deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

There has been strong speculation linking both Milan and Newcastle to Botman since the January transfer window and after it seemed that the Rossoneri had tied up a deal ahead of the summer, various uncertainties such as the ownership situation left the door open for another assault from the Premier League.

Romano writes on Twitter that Newcastle ‘are pushing to sign Sven Botman as soon as possible’ with the negotiations between the clubs now entering ‘key stages’. He adds that Milan are ‘still in the race’ but Newcastle ‘are now advancing’,

Negotiations with the Magpies ‘started last January’ as per the journalist and Botman is ‘open’ to the idea of making the move to the Premier League, contrary to the widespread reports in the Italian media suggesting that he would snub Newcastle because he has his heart set on Milan.

  1. Not surprising at all. Most of all EPL teams can outbid us and offer the player more salary. Key is will of the player – BUT with 2-3 years left on his deal and us taking our sweet old time – his bargaining power is not as strong and he may get impatient (like Thauvin did) and just take more $ and sign w Newcastle. Players will only wait for so long.

  2. My clear preference is for Bremer, so I am not too sorry. But if Bremer goes to Torino, then maybe this will turn out to be a bummer.

  3. Btw. as to wage-difference between Serie A and PL. B. Kamara went on free transfer from Marseille to Aston Villa and signed a contract worth of 9 mill euros per season…Aston Villa, for God’s sake!
