CorSport: Lazio face competition as Newcastle and Aston Villa chase Milan defender

By Oliver Fisher -

The Premier League has all of a sudden emerged as a possible destination for AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli with two teams having come forward, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that Lazio are constantly pressing to try and sign Romagnoli, whose contract at Milan is about to expire and he will not renew, therefore ready to leave on a free transfer.

The Biancocelesti have raised their offer to €2.8m net per season in a bid to tempt the 27-year-old to finally say yes to his boyhood club, but there is now a significant obstacle for Claudio Lotito’s side.

Newcastle United are chasing the Italy international and they are ready to put a salary of €4m net per year on the plate to tempt him to the Premier League, while Aston Villa are also interested in trying to lure him over to England.
