Newcastle director claims Botman ‘desperately wants’ move – but personal terms agreed with Milan

Newcastle director Amanda Staveley has claimed Sven Botman is still keen on a move to the Magpies, despite having personal terms agreed with Milan.

Botman’s contract at Lille expires in summer and was subject to interest from both Newcastle and Milan in the January transfer window, but stayed put in France as neither club met Lille’s asking price.

Speaking to The Athletic (quoted by Football Italia) Staveley opened up about Newcastle’s January transfer targets, stating: “Some [players] desperately wanted to come to us, like Sven [Botman], who still does very much and has talked very openly about that”.

Botman acknowledged the interest after the transfer window and is still expected to leave Lille at the end of the season, with Milan remaining interested in his signature and needing defensive reinforcements, potentially replacing Alessio Romagnoli should he depart in summer.

Newcastle reportedly remain in the race, recruiting a handful of players in January despite missing out on Botman and Jesse Lingard, who has also been linked with a move to the Rossoneri previously.

  1. Well there goes that idea lol. Why didn’t we just spend the 75M on Vlahovic when we had the chance?? Newcastle will naturally outbid us so unless Botman says he only wants Milan we will lose another target. I’d we are offering him 2.5M they will offer 5M and 50M to Lille to get the job done….Sanches same situation. We will lik.why be priced out of the market unless the players will is to Jon us and only us…skeptical. Sign KAMARA on a free to replace Kessie and spend some $$ on a striker and RW for fuck sakes
