Report: Newcastle defender to snub Milan interest and sign new long-term deal

Newcastle United are close to finalising a the contract extension of centre-back Fabian Schar who was approached by AC Milan, according to a report.

Given that Schar’s contract is up in June there has been plenty of speculation about a potential destination ahead of next season, but now Newcastle have all but mathematically avoided relegation they can now make plans for next season and the renewal of the Swiss defender is on their agena.

As TEAMtalk report, Lille, Borussia Monchengladbach and Galatasaray are among those to have made contact with his agent and he also held talks with representatives of Milan about a possible switch to Italy.

However, the 30-year-old is now set to sign a new long-term deal with the Magpies having ‘always made clear his wish to stay’ at the club. He joined from Deportivo La Coruna in 2019 and has played 96 times for Newcastle, scoring 9 times in that spell.
