AC Milan still believe that they can sign Charles De Ketelaere but they are unlikely to be able to rely upon an injection of funds into the budget, a journalist has claimed.
A meeting between the Rossoneri directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara and their counterparts from Club Brugge took place in a hotel in Lugano, Switzerland, today and there are conflicting reports about whether the talks were positive or whatever a stalemate still persists. You can read our update on the situation here.

The presenter of Qui Studio a Voi Stadio – Cristiano Ruiu – spoke on a live broadcast in conjunction with Calciomercato.it and he revealed some interesting information regarding the De Ketelaere saga, as relayed by MilanLive.
On seeing Maldini, he began: “Living in Lugano and working with casinos and therefore in close contact with the big hotels in Lugano, it was not so hard. I took a few steps and crossed paths with Maldini, I tried to get a few words out of him after the match against Bruges but they remained very buttoned up.
“But the feeling is that there is great optimism about the closure for De Ketelaere. If the managers of both clubs move, there is obviously the desire to close, so the feeling is that the deal will be done.”
There will therefore still be negotiations in the next few days, with Maldini and Massara having to make another effort to convince the Belgian champions. Many have questioned why raising by a few million is so tough, and Ruiu spoke of Elliott’s choices.
“That Elliott are not aiming to win this is clear, but because it aims to balance the budget. It’s a choice, no one currently wants to put money into Milan, it’s a fact,” he said.

“It’s a choice, no one currently wants to put money into Milan, it’s a fact,” he said.”
Because they couldn’t use the money to buy players anyway due to FFP. Another fact.
Remove FFP from this, Roma, fiorentina, Lazio and Atalanta are closing deals……Milan is just plain Trash!!!!!!!
All we do is make headlines in the media where we are begging or crying over 1m or 2m
It seems to be just you who is crying over these things.
“Remove FFP from this, Roma, fiorentina, Lazio and Atalanta are closing deals……”
– They don’t have FFP issues so they’re terrible examples.
“Milan is just plain Trash!!!!!!!”
– Well…. Maybe you can just F*** OFF then!
“no one currently wants to put money into Milan, it’s a fact”
Once again, I’m not sur I understand as I believed RedBird had invested €1.3 Bn into the club. It is not what we could call ‘put money into the club’ ????
Why buy a club if not to make it thrive???
There is a difference running a club for profit vs titles. Just look at Atalanta. They make approx 30M profit each year – one of the only “profitable” clubs in Italy (and Europe for that matter). But they don’t really care about wining titles. They have a few great seasons here and there then instead of taking next leap in quality – they sell their best players. It seems we will be run the same way. Last years title was not expected. Minimal investments. Buy younger players who don’t make much salary- then when they break out as stars and want real $$ – sell for profit. That is the Elliot/Redbird way. Great business model – but horrible for us fans who care about wining. If we hadn’t won last year and finished out of top 4 everyone would be screaming and complaining. Fine. So let’s see what happens this season and with the renewals, early signs are not promising. But to answer your question – profit is one thing – titles/wining are another. Just ask Barca lol
Even if that were the case, it’s still far better than the years between 2014 and 2019. If with the splashed out hundreds of millions by Li’s Milan what did we get in return? Midtable finishes and no trophies.
So… Even that TOP4 would be a huge upgrade to those years. Just sayin’… 🙂
Your such a homer pal lol. Again nobody is advocating for us to spend recklessly like Li did. I have never said that and M&M would never do that. It’s not needed. So your trying to deflect and make an incorrect comparison to avoid looking foolish and a sheep – always defending these owners lol. What is needed however is support provided by ownership to M&M when they identify a player they want within reason they are given the funds to purchase. M&M are not asking for 80M to sign a player. It’s 35M. Quite frankly if we can’t do that we have no business being owners of a football club in todays market.
You’re beyond clueless. How many times does it need to be repeated that Milan are still failing FFP before it sinks in? And no one who has been a Milan supporter for more than 5 minutes cries about money, 35 years ago, we were the richest club in the world, now you’re moaning because PSG, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle etc have more money than us? Boo fucking hoo.
Bro please piss off you’re the most unneeded soul on earth, the guy is trying to be positive about our current situation considering how we were a few years ago 🤷 bro you really think you’re smart, trust me bro don’t flatter yourself 😂😭
“Just ask Barca lol”
How to cheat the FFP. eh? that.
No one who has supported the club for more than 5 minutes cries about money, and as we’re still failing FFP, of course we’re compromised in the market. We used to be the richest club in the world, we’re not anymore, get over it. Your Atalanta example is also garbage because not only did that fail to win the scudetto, they also SOLD their best players for a profit, our best players left on free transfers, that is the biggest difference between us and our rivals. I don’t believe we’ve had one sale over €30 million in the last three seasons.
Mehdi shut up your mouth, you jump into peopls comment as if you have something good to say…..when did Atalanta start making top 10? What about fiorentina who I can’t even remember when they went to Europa Last but they close good deal every season….what about Napoli, inter and juve who we were told had more negative account to than Milan?
Stop protecting them, this is what vulture funds does, go and check their background and history, vulture funds uses any institution in their grabs plainly for profit and nothing more, none of those men are football fan, they don’t even know anything about football, thats why they got gazidiz due to the business model he created in arsenal of get young players and sell for profit……so calm down and shut up, FFP have nothing to do with this, our account is good to Fail FFP
Injecting €1.3b just ruin fans and spoil the name of a big Italian Giant.. Elliot should take all the blame for choosing Redbird to Investcorp… We ll continue with the static market and waiting for free transfers…
So it’s clear that Elliott are not aiming to win? Yet they’ve somehow managed to win right? Because I guess it’s just a matter of luck, or as some like to say ” it’s because Serie A is at its lowest”. Ok I get it.
When you say no one wants to put money into Milan, I’m assuming that you mean Elliott right? The same Elliott who’s total net investment for Milan amounted to €642.25m as of 10 September 2020? Hey I actually think you might be on to something.
Hehe, well said. 🙂
Your confusing the 2. They are both separate. They put money in when they bought to make it more attractive as AN INVESTMENT for BUYERS. You clear the debt before you sell. And they definitely accomplished what they wanted -they got the return on their investment they wanted lol. BUT That is NOT the same as spending money to build a club that wants to compete for titles consistently.
“BUT That is NOT the same as spending money to build a club that wants to compete for titles consistently.”
Can’t spend the money you don’t have. Owner’s money cannot be used for player transfers especially when the club has already violated the FFP rules for years and were punished for that.
People seem to forget that the FFP restricts Milan’s actions quite a bit these days. Either forget or fail to comprehend. Either way…
Say that to PSG
PSG has “oiled” the decision-makers in UEFA & FIFA. The rules don’t therefore apply to them.
Yea especially people like this juro guy who just writes rubbish in every comment and comes at everyone’s throat who actually speaks truth and can’t do one comment without a passive aggressive LOL
LOL ok kid. Love the club and the colors – not ownership – and want to hold them to higher standards.
Stay mad bro no one cares about your constant negative comments, you think they’re helping? The only thing embarrassing is you constantly whining about it. Grow up
I’m not confusing the two at all. I never tried to imply that Elliott’s entire investment went towards pleasing insatiable fans with overhyped player signings. Yeah, most of the money they invested went towards debt financing and so on, but it seems to me that what you’re saying is Elliott didn’t use any of the $642.25m on player investment, when that’s not true. Elliott has spent more than $150m to assemble this team that are champions of Italy. Maybe you can make an argument that what they’ve invested in players is peanuts to what the Barcelonas, Man Cities and PSGs of this world spend but it’s wrong to say that they don’t want to put money in when they have done so to great effect.
Unfortunately in football what you did in the past doesn’t matter. Every year requires new investment. Doesn’t matter what they did last 4 years. Yes it was great to get us back to a contending team. Now what? Do Madrid or Man City say well we spend last few years so we are not going to do so for the next 2? No. Football requires constant expenditure. Sucks but it is the way it is IF you want to contend for titles against the best. These owners IMO will/do not.
“Unfortunately in football what you did in the past doesn’t matter.”
FFP doesn’t forget though. 😉
“Football requires constant expenditure.”
And that’s OK if the budget is in balance. In Milan it’s not. They still made loss last season. Once they start making profits, they can spend more on players. And that will happen once the new stadium is in use. Hopefully in 2 years in Sesto San Giovanni.
Kj, Do you remember when Real Madrid won three consecutive champions league finals from 15/16 to 17/18? If you do, how much do you think they spent on players over that three year period? And how many of those players would have been superstars? Madrid did a triple in the champions league and only had two changes to the starting lineup from the first one in 15/16. Just two! The two players were Varane and Isco, both of whom had been previously bought in 2011 and 2013 respectively. They weren’t even signed during that triumphant period but well before. During that same three year period, they spent less than what Milan spent under Li.
Milanito every president invests money into the club and they still earn the profit at the end of the day, so stop saying that Elliot invest such amount which I am sure it is not even up to that….Elliot can not invest in the club because they know that they will not own Milan come end of season, also Redbird knows that investing now doesn’t make sense since Elliot still owns 70%…….so they are both waiting, I predict that January transfer will be better
Kossy, I didn’t make up those numbers. That’s info that was made available in a Forbes article and my estimate on player investments came from transfermarkt. I gave a modest round off of the transfer money that has been spent since Elliott’s arrival. I didn’t include every single purchase and I also didn’t include players like Piatek and Paqueta who also came during that time.
Realistically, this current Milan team doesn’t need much strengthening because the core players are young and therefore can naturally improve the squad by reaching their full potential. We’ve not seen the best of any of our young stars yet and that should be frightening to any of our opponents. I don’t care who or what they’ve reinforced with but come this season they’ll have to fight tooth and nail to dethrone us.
It’s because the takeover isn’t complete. From Elliot’s point of view, why remodel the kitchen if they’ve already sold the house? It doesn’t make sense. And from Redbird point of view why invest money into something you don’t quite yet own.
Exactly. And RedBird CANNOT invest as it’s not their club yet.
we can only see the truth about redbird next season aight?
after the takeover is completed whether the new owner will splash money to the mercato or not..
Exactly.
Elliot and Redbird get out soon from Milan if you are not serious to build Milan. As funs we have been tired waiting for mercato like this every season. You all only want provit not title.
Elliot only want big money from capital gain by reducing transfer budget and salary . Nothing we can do as fans , we can only hope some rich guy buy elliot stocks 30 percent then buy Red bird stocks in the end to get rid both of them . Only money in elliot mind and they still in charge
Exactly
I just give up Milan will never be back again the team would remain like Arsenal in the past years
Spoken like a true fan, eh? 🙂
Actually no one want to put a penny in fake media
