The AC Milan Futuro project was earmarked as a way to propel youth players into the first team, using the club as its own step. However, this has not occurred.
In the past 12 months, the Futuro idea has seen a real rise and fall. From its inception to now, the moods around the project could not be further apart, and unfortunately, the senior team cannot shield things.
This afternoon, Calciomercato.com have reported that the project is a failure and an ‘economic disaster’ as things stand, and this needs to change very quickly.
Sitting 19th and struggling, the Futuro is surrounded by harsh reviews, but this will not change unless there is a change in results, both on the pitch and in talent, because unfortunately, the project has failed to show signs of its objective.
Francesco Camarda, who has regularly been involved in the senior team this season, has not been enough to spearhead the team. Unfortunately, the talent around him, when given the chance, has shown themselves to be better in Serie A, than Serie C, which again raises questions about the usefulness of the project.
After all, if they struggle at Serie C level, but can compete in Serie A, the issue is not with talent, but their location.
Then, we look to the economic situation. Barring a few signings, the recruitment in the team has been poor so far and the €12 million invested so far looks to be a waste, especially so if relegation to Serie D occurs, which is a very tangible possibility as things stand.
Improvement is needed, and the Futuro needs to prove it, and they have a future.
Remind me which players have struggled in Serie C but excelled in Serie A? Certainly not Camarda, who may have promise but has hardly been able to show that in the first team.
I don’t think you can judge this project on a single season, it just needs its kinks ironing out – it’s been hugely successful for many other clubs, not just those in Italy but outside too – it’s supposed to be an investment, not an instant miracle.
Futuro is good.
You have primavera players, which needs to upgrade to Futuro which needs to upgrade to Serie a.
You have Calabria from primavera, Gabbia, Pobega for example. If they had opportunity to play in “Futuro” they might becomed much better.
Best talents from Futuro needs to have chances to play in Milan team.
But problem is Milan team result, if they don’t have good result – they can’t put youngsters to play. If Milan first team struggling how any coach can put in fire someone who is just potential?
Futuro project is failing because Ibra hired Bonera and didn’t fire him soon enough and it’s very difficult situation for any coach to salvage the season, it’s too late!!
Look at what Abate is doing, Milan should have hired abate instead of Ibra’s friend, Bonera. Senior team is also suffering because they hired Fonceca instead of Conte, and Milan management was too slow to go
For Conceicao as he could have done better job if he came in earlier to fix the problem.
If Mila hired Conte, Milan should be fighting for league title now!!
This is what you get for hiring friends. Maldini even had to fire his own buddy Gattuso in order to rebuild the team. We have the biggest financial power out of any club in the league and we still got it wrong. Just like in the senior team
The management just woken up now? All the players moved from the youth section to seria A team what’s their contributions and where did it help the team?
From beginning of the season the futuro team was deprived the great players who made them register for the division c side and we have seen the result so far.
Like I said our management are children in football administration business and should be ashamed for dragging Milan into the garbage we find ourselves today.
Am so sorry honestly am so sorry because most fans only read what Milan did when we were Milan but I saw almost every match.
Next season will be ok and at least we won super cup
That’s funny because the U23 projects at Atalanta and Juventus have been good.
I am always mindful of conveniently assigning blame to certain individuals but aren’t the problems here at justifiably laid at the feet of Zlatan:
1. Zlatan is the person who chose his friend Kirovski, a man with no experience in Italian football to head up the project. He has been a disaster.
2. Zlatan is the one who essentially kicked Abate, the man who knew 75% of the Futuro squad (if not more) because he had worked with them and done very well with them in the preceding 2 seasons. Not only did Abate not inherit the role, as he very clearly should have – look where Ternana is position on the Girone B table- but they then arrogantly appointed Bonera who had not previously coached his own team.
I do not believe there was anything wrong with the ambition for the team to be very young. It is the combination of the youth of the players and inexperience of the off field team that has blown the season up.
Bonera should have been sacked 6 to 8 weeks earlier. The results were terrible and the job was becoming too much of a poison chalice for a new coach to consider.
Zlatan is an arrogant fool who does not belong in any serious role at Milan (or any club, really).
I don’t remember Camarda ever getting a reasonable amount of game time in Serie A.
What is a reasonable game time for 17yrs old?? I personally think camarda was given a lot playing time in the first team, both with easier an thougher opponents. There are not a lot more 17yrs old centre forwards playing as much as camarda did in the first team.
