Official: AC Milan confirm centre-back will undergo surgery on ankle injury

AC Milan have confirmed that Mateo Musacchio will undergo surgery on an ankle problem in Spain next week.

It was confirmed last week that the Argentine defender would be left out of Milan’s squad to face Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg due to an ankle problem, although he had fallen down the pecking order prior to the break due to COVID-19 anyway.

According to the club’s official website, Musacchio will have to undergo an arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. The operation will be performed by Professor Ramon Cugat next week in Barcelona.

It is believed that the injury was not showing signs of improvement with regular treatment and therefore the next step must be taken, with more information on recovery times to follow.

Monday’s edition of the newspaper Tuttosport (via MilanLive) reported that Musacchio will leave Milan in the summer. With his contract expiring in June 2021, the Argentine is looking for a new club with Valencia appears the most likely option at present.

Depending on when he will be back, it could be that he has already played his last game for the club.
