Official: Inter vs. AC Milan starting XIs – one change from Juventus win

AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao has named his starting line-up for the Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter, with one change from the Juventus game.

In his pre-match press conference, Conceicao did admit that Milan have four or five players that are not in the best condition which certainly adds to the selection quandaries he has had to answer in training.

The official starting XIs

Rafael Leao was never expected to start the game but he has made the bench. The forward options remain limited given that Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze all remained in Italy as they continue their recoveries after quite major problems.

Conceicao has named very close to the same team that he did for the 2-1 win against Juventus, in which second-half changes made a big difference and sparked a comeback.

Yunus Musah has come into the side in Ismael Bennacer’s place after a good impact off the bench on Friday. He joins Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana in what could be a three-man midfield, or may see the Dutchman more advanced.

The rearguard of Mike Maignan in goal plus Emerson Royal, Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Theo Hernandez as the back four remains the same from Friday’s comeback victory.

In attack, Christian Pulisic and Alex Jimenez will remain as the wingers though it remains to be seen who takes which flank. The American and the Spaniard will be either side of Alvaro Morata either way.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Tomori, Thiaw, Theo; Musah, Fofana; Jimenez, Reijnders, Pulisic; Morata.

Bench: Sportiello, Calabria, Bennacer, Loftus-Cheek, Jovic, Leao, Zeroli, Pavlovic, Bartesaghi, Terracciano, Gabbia, Vos, Traoré, Camarda, Abraham.

Official Inter XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Taremi, Lautaro Martinez.

Bench: Josep Martinez, Calligaris, Zielinski, Arnautovic, Thuram, Correa, Frattesi, Buchanan, Asllani, Carlos Augusto, Darmian, Palacios, Aidoo, Alexiou, Berenbruch.

  1. Emerson again?
I hope once Conceicao has had time to settle he will bench that donkey, It is soo painful to watch him try to play football

    1. Same dumb obligatory Emerson comment every time. How many coaches have to tell you Emerson is better than Calabria before you get it thru your dumb head. He’s been better than Theo has been this season.

      1. Same obnoxious nonsense from you. Calabria is better as evidenced by recent years.
He is also not the only option with Tomori, Jimenez, Musah capable of playing there.

Anyway I’m sure Conceicao knows the score, he has not had time for too many adjustments yet, but mark my words Emerson will not be part of his plans going forward

        1. Sleepy Emerson chilling while giving inter the ball for a quick throw in and goal. Everything aside that there should not happen at professional level.

          1. I picked the coach now? What an incredibly dumb comment. Not surprising who it’s coming from. Weird that the new coach happens to agree with me as well that Emmerson is better than Calabria. If only these coaches knew as much about football as you…

          2. Look who’s playing dumb. U very well know you miss your boyfriend Fonseca. The professionals handled that for you. They thought the coach was the issue. You didn’t.
And here we are with a trophy

          3. K is clearly blind or stupid or both.
Emerson is better than nobody ever.

Its amazing how a Milan fan hates his homegrown captain so much

      2. Look who’s playing dumb. U very well know you miss your boyfriend Fonseca. The professionals handled that for you. They thought the coach was the issue. You didn’t.
And here we are with a trophy

Btw. Did see how Emerson got manhandled by Dumfries on the flank? You should thank Calabria for the pass and movement off the ball to create space on route to the winning goal LMAO 🤣🤣🤣

    2. Agreed, Emerson belongs nowhere near the starting 11. I’d honestly rather play Jimenez at RB where he’s comfortable, move puli over to LW and put some like Terra or chaka in on the wing. Chaka could even play lw so puli stays rw. Emerson is just a liability that every team exploits

  2. Honestly, I will care less about how we play tonight, I care more about how we fight tonight.

Tactics wouldn’t win us this game, then right mentality will.

We beat Inter and Madrid with these same players, we won those games because of the amount of fight we had.

I don’t care who plays tonight, just get the job done.

    Good luck lads.

  3. Musah and Fofana, two tireless midfielders in the middle with two workhorse wingers in Puli and Jimenez. Quite a physical starting eleven. I like it.

As much as I’ve been critical of Musah, maybe Conceiçao can unleash his true potential. He’s the type of tireless player coaches like Conceiçao and Conte admire. I’ve seen glimpses of Kante in him and with the right guidance, yeah why not.

  4. Finally we’re applying what others do to us and that’s a low block
No fancy suicide press. Strikers stay back until mids occupy a certain space.
Hope to see more of the new tactics this game

    1. You would only be able to play it when the opponent is attacking you. Genoa ,Torino etc won’t attack, so you can’t really play sit and counter

  5. Yes yes yes, this is how to play football as a team. Bravo

Now we are playing a high energy game so the problem is when we tire and they have more options on the bench.

Bummer that Lautaro got that goal right at the end after Milan were better. But that’s what happens when Emerson plays

  6. Omg Emerson is just a clown it is unbelievable!!

    Get him off asap!!!
    Even for Sportiello

Or just play with 10 men.
    10 v 11 is easier than 10 v 12

  7. If the management is serious, the first thing to address this Jan transfer market would be a RB, we can’t keep playing 10 players against 12 players.

  8. Dumfries just manhandled Emerson on the flank there lol 😂

Anyways I’m happy with this performance. We really showed spirit and guts. Don’t care if we win or lose now. I like the effort. We just need to do two halves like the second half. Fight from the start

  9. Can’t believe we pulled an Inter on Inter for that last goal.. so beautiful

Conceicao is a winner it seems. 5 days and he pulls this off. Insane. The trophy is just cherry on top for me. I like what I see from the second half and the subs were ready when they came on. 👍

    1. Actually forget that….Omg the look on Inter players faces is just priceless. Where is that pr.ick “Inter fan” who was so coc.ky that his team was going to win? Such a loser haha 😆
