Official: Lorenzo Colombo joins Empoli on loan with option to buy deal

AC Milan have officially confirmed that Lorenzo Colombo has completed a move to Empoli on a loan with option to buy deal.

Colombo was scoring a brace against Manchester City in New York just four days ago, but the mercato moves fast and it was always reported that he would be allowed out on another loan spell with a number of different suitors mentioned.

As the official website have now confirmed, it is Empoli who have secured the services of Colombo for at least the 2024-25 season. However, it will not just be a season-long dry loan like the Lecce and Monza spells, because they will also have the option to make it permanent next summer.

Colombo came through the youth academy of Milan, and it was with the Rossoneri that he made his professional debut at the age of 18, in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia against Juventus. A month later, he made his debut in Serie A in the match with Bologna.

Last season with Monza, the 22-year-old made 25 appearances and scored four goals under Raffaele Palladino, but struggled for starts after Christmas. At international level Colombo has played 20 games with the Under 21s, including four at the European Championships in June last year.
