Official: Lorenzo Colombo joins Empoli on loan with option to buy deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have officially confirmed that Lorenzo Colombo has completed a move to Empoli on a loan with option to buy deal.

Colombo was scoring a brace against Manchester City in New York just four days ago, but the mercato moves fast and it was always reported that he would be allowed out on another loan spell with a number of different suitors mentioned.

As the official website have now confirmed, it is Empoli who have secured the services of Colombo for at least the 2024-25 season. However, it will not just be a season-long dry loan like the Lecce and Monza spells, because they will also have the option to make it permanent next summer.

Colombo came through the youth academy of Milan, and it was with the Rossoneri that he made his professional debut at the age of 18, in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia against Juventus. A month later, he made his debut in Serie A in the match with Bologna.

Last season with Monza, the 22-year-old made 25 appearances and scored four goals under Raffaele Palladino, but struggled for starts after Christmas. At international level Colombo has played 20 games with the Under 21s, including four at the European Championships in June last year.

  1. Good luck buddy..hope he does well.

Now we’re down to 3 academy players 🤷‍♂️
    And Calabria can possibly leave?!

  2. No buy-back clause? Real Madrid puts one on everyone these days but once a player leaves Casa Milan it’s a definite goodbye. :/

        1. It does seems like it but there also was a contradicting article yesterday that said we would have a buy back clause inserted in the deal. If that isn’t the case its an idiotic deal we just made.

    1. I think also because of the current status og Real Madrid but also and mostly because of the economy of Real Madrid.

Im sure when we get our own stadium we will be able to pay bigger saleries, better contract proposals with buyback clauses et.

  3. The Lecce loan wasn’t a dry loan. They had a buyout option which they exercised, and then Milan used their by back option

  4. I’m so glad we used a preseason match to get another club’s player match fit….

Other clubs seem to get more out of our preseason than our own players seeing as few of the players who start are still at the club at the start of season.

  5. They need to trust their own academy player… This guy remind me of Inzaghi & simone. He is fast on reading the game & his finishing is superb!
