Official: Milan name 22-man squad for next stage of Europa League – Hauge excluded

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have officially submitted their list of players for the next stage of the Europa League campaign, starting with a two-legged tie against Red Star Belgrade later this month.

As per MilanNews, the Rossoneri have communicated to UEFA their list and the absence of Jens Petter Hauge stands out. For the group stages, Milan registered a squad of 23 players in List A. Gigio Donnarumma, Matteo Gabbia and Daniel Maldini were included in List B because they came through the academy at Milan.

Leo Duarte, Mateo Musacchio and Andrea Conti left in January, so Milan find themselves with one less player having been trained in Italy. This means reduction of List A players allowed from 23 to 22. Rade Krunic, Jens Petter Hauge and Soualiho Meite were among the obvious candidates to be excluded, and the Norwegian has been chosen.

List A

Goalkeeper: Tatarusanu, A. Donnarumma.
Defenders: Calabria, Dalot, Hernadez, Kalulu, Kjaer, Tomori, Romagnoli.
Midfielders: Bennacer, Castillejo, Brahim Diaz, Kessie, Krunic, Meite, Saelemaekers, Tonali, Calhanoglu.
Forwards: Ibrahimovic, Leao, Mandzukic, Rebic.

List B

G. Donnarumma, Gabbia, Maldini.

Excluded

Hauge.

This really stupid move from pioli. The biy shined the brightest in the Europa. We wouldn’t even top the group but for him.

  2. Joe101 says:

a tad dumb to keep the useless Meite over Hauge

    1. riverra says:

That’s right a player like Hauge with experience in Europe left at home.
To the football world it makes no sense!

  3. Maurici says:

    Stupid decision

  4. Juro says:

Maldini over Hauge??? Really? Why he hasn’t played all year

    1. qwerty says:

Doesn’t make sense. Hauge was brought to the team due to successful performances in EL in the first place & it is absolutely unfair to exclude him.

Moreover, the club rejected at least 3 loan offers for him.

I would’ve handed a transfer request in his place.

      1. Marius says:

Once again creative player fall in the old italian style of play. I blame only Pioli and his tactics that Hauge is in this situation. He prefers only simple pases over creativity. I tell you why he looked shy in the last matches: because the master tactician forbided him to drible and risk to lose the ball. The poor kid was trying hard to impress his coach not knowing that this would backfire on him

          Second to this!

Pioli usually gives positive talking about the players, even the loanees such as Dialot even after his dreadful performance, but I noticed he had only NEGATIVE talking points after Hauge’s great performance in the last EL games. After that press talking, Hauge has suddenly lost his confidence, become confused, got no teammates support, for example, Theo would prefer send the ball to Brahim instead of Hauge even if Hauge was in a much better position.

Pioli is destroying Hauge, a player with great potential, wide field vision and football intelligence.

  5. Ugochukwu says:

    Why?
Hauge is a better option than Krunic or Castillejo!

  6. A. Rufai Trader says:

Hauge is the most important player in Ac millan, they just want put Ac millan in another stuation.

  7. Anthony says:

Meite over Hauge? our Midfield is a full squad
    He deserves to play!
I hope they lose, so they know that their tactics and mentality has changed and it got weaker

  8. Nougtara Yusif says:

If we are going through with the youth project then we have to think twice about the couch,I see we lose the next Henry or Awobameyang.

  9. mm says:

Pioli reached his limits. What youth project? I can see that even if Eliot wants to promote young players, the octopus in charge thinks only at scudeto and fill us up with grandpas. But our footbal is old and predictible. So, we don’t stand a chance at scudeto. When (not if) that happens, maldini and pioli will realise that the youth is the way to go… And we will have another year lost

  10. Rosso says:

Milan has decided to challenge Chelsea’s stupidity.

  11. Italo says:

People making reference to Maldini being selected 🤦‍♂️ He is selected because he is an AC Milan youth which is needed on the team per UEFA rules. The choice was between Hauge, Meite and Krunic. The only reason why Hauge was the one left athome is because he is mainly a LW playerand lacks the versatility others offer. His position is already occupied by Leao or Rebic and can also be filled by Mandzukic, Maldini, Krunic. Meite is needed in the midfield as we have seen the past few weeks, we are too short in subs. Finally Krunic is capable of playing several roles (LM, CM, DM, AM). All in all Hauge is the only one lacking versatility and his position is full of other options. I do believe he is a great player and hope he will have plenty of time in Serie A as his last few performances weren’t particularly great. He is a smart kid and knows the reasons behind his exclusion

    1. Marius says:

Mate, just because on paper krunic can play in different roles it doesn’t mean that he plays well. He is a joke and you can review the mistakes he made in every match he played regardeless his position in the field. You think exactly like Pioli no offence. It is because of hauge that milan is stil in Europa league and he could have been the man who denied us europe. just remember this when you deny him

  12. Gibbo says:

This will be the end of Hauge’s Milan career. He won’t get any playing time at all now. I’m really disappointed by this decision. I had really high hopes for Hauge at Milan but now it looks like he’ll have to become a star somewhere else.

  13. milanfanfromchina says:

Stupidest decision by Pioli! Leaving one the our best EL players out of the list? What is he thinking about?!!!
