Official: Wigan confirm deal with AC Milan for Robinson is off – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

Wigan Athletic have confirmed that a deal to send full-back Antonee Robinson to AC Milan is now off.

Widespread reports emerged on Thursday evening suggesting that Milan and Wigan had agreed a fee for the USA international, with left-back Ricardo Rodriguez having completed a move to PSV Eindhoven earlier in the day.

Robinson then travelled to Milano on Friday morning to complete a dream deadline day move, undergoing both his medical and physical checks before heading to the club’s Casa Milan headquarters.

However, Wigan have now hinted in their statement that not everything went smoothly with his physical checks, and that more tests were required.

A statement on the Championship club’s official website reads as follows:

‘Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson will remain at the DW Stadium after his move to AC Milan could not be completed.

‘Robinson, 22, travelled to Milan this morning after the two clubs agreed a fee for the permanent transfer on Thursday evening.

‘The USA international underwent a medical examination with AC Milan, though further medical tests with the Italian authorities were required, which were subject to a 72-hour deadline.

‘As such, the deal could not be formally ratified before the 8pm Italian Transfer Deadline on Friday.’

MilanNews.it are reporting that there was in fact no total agreement between the two clubs, with an issue regarding the payment method.

Meanwhile, English journalist Alan Nixon reported that Robinson is set to fly back to England due to a ‘row’ over terms of the deal. More details, undoubtedly, will follow in due course.
