Massimiliano Allegri has been pleasantly surprised by the level of the AC Milan squad at his disposal, according to Franco Ordine.
Milan’s preseason began at Milanello just over two weeks ago, and it allowed Allegri to get a first look at the team, returning 11 years after his last spell with the Rossoneri ended. Now the squad are currently in the Far East, in Singapore to be precise, as part of a tour with friendlies to play.

While waiting for some further reinforcements from the mercato – with Pervis Estupinan expected to be the next new name through the door – Allegri will have the task of helping some players in their bid for a resurgence.
‘Surprised by the technical quality’
Ordine was a guest on TMW Radio on Monday afternoon during the program ‘Calciomercato e Ritiri’, and he spoke about some of the impressions that he has regarding Milan.
Are Milan behind in the transfer window?
“I think something concrete will happen this week, including outgoings. Pobega is already a done deal for Bologna for €8 million, I think Emerson Royal is also on the verge of leaving, then Jashari and the Brighton defender could be finalised now.
“It’s clear you can’t want everything right away, but that’s the case for many Serie A teams. Instead, I understand we need to see how the squad is completed.”
How do you assess Allegri’s return to Milanello?
“I found him very determined, enthusiastic about this opportunity, and he wants to make up for his last experience at Juventus. And I found him very surprised by the technical quality of the AC Milan squad.”

Claudio Ranieri, towards the end of last season, when asked which team has the best players in serie A, said Milan.
on paper we do have a lot of quality and talent. We have many problems though. Personally, i think 2 of those problems are fundamental.
1. No clear direction. – from management to coach, we need direction as to style of play, recruiting, development etc. We switched so many times formations and directions …. which leads me to
2. Unbalanced squad. Yes we are talented in certain areas and certain positions. For example, we had Fofana, Tiji, RLC, Musah, Liberali, etc. All talented, or young with potential but at the same time all had a similar profile and occupying the same role. At the same time, we had zero defensive midfielders. … so as of right now, we have very talented players but also some areas such as LB and RB with literaly 0 players.
This. Up until this summer all we were missing was a high quality defensive midfielder and perhaps a reliable starting striker, a true no. 9. Ibra and Giroud were band aids, who did quite well for about two seasons each, but we needed someone in their prime so that we didn’t have to worry about the position every other summer. Not having these two players has basically lead to major overhauls each of the last two summers which has only increased the imbalance of the squad. All they needed to do was replace Kessie when he left with a proper DM and find a reliable striker. They just couldn’t do it.
I’m looking for a big step forward this year from Fofana.
First year in Serie A is always tough. On top of that he was coming off a long run with France in the Euro and was asked to play every three days.
Summer off plus a year of Serie A experience and better players around him in midfield all point to a better Fofana in year two.
I think this is a good take, we often see players improve from year one to two, I think a midfield three of Fofana, Modric and RLC/Ricci would be dangerous
Remember how much crap was said about Reijnders during / after year one??
Also just the general improvement in team spirit and man management skills of Allegri will help.
The place was just toxic last year.
