MN: Orsato appointed as referee in Napoli-Milan – the precedents worry the Rossoneri

By Oliver Fisher -

The big match of the round in Serie A is between the two top sides in Serie A and the designator Rocchi has assigned Daniele Orsato to the game.

MilanNews writes that with Orsato as the referee, the Rossoneri do not have a great record having won just 2 of 16 minutes when he has been in charge. He has officiated Milan against Napoli before back on 23 November 2019, when the final score was 1-1, but there are plenty of other bad precedents.

Back on 26 April 2021, Orsato’s decision not to award a foul by Lucas Leiva on Calhanoglu in the build up to the second goal from Joaquin Correa effectively put the game beyond Milan. The referee did not report anything and gave the goal, before being summoned to the monitor by the VAR Mazzoleni suggesting he made an error, but Orsato proved to be almost annoyed by that and he gave the goal.

Then there is the game against Sampdoria back on 30 March 2019 when Defrel scored the winner after a mistake by Donnarumma. There was huge controversy at the end of the game due to a reckless tackle by Murru inside the box on Piatek that seemed a clear penalty. From the VAR room Doveri called Orsato to the monitor, but he did not change his mind.

  1. Its obvious that Inter has to win the tittle, they will do everything to kill us vs napoli, this referee is their player

  2. He is a ref that both Milan and Napoli have had problems with in the past, dont be surprised to see a result that benefits Juventus on sunday.
