‘Paixao a thorn in the side of Milan’ – Dutch media react after Feyenoord make history

Feyenoord beat Milan in the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie last night at De Kuip, and the Dutch media are celebrating as a result.

They have a reason to be jovial too given that Feyenoord lost their star striker Santiago Gimenez to Milan in the winter window and then sacked their head coach on Monday, meaning a caretaker took charge.

Not only that but they fully deserved the win too, overwhelming the Rossoneri with a first-half performance full of intensity and fight. It had been over 50 years since the Dutch club had won a match in the knockout phase of the competition, too.

Sportwereld in the Netherlands have rightly praised Feyenoord’s performance with the headline ‘Smiles at De Kuip’ on the front page, choosing Igor Paixao as the cover man, who not only scored the opening goal but was also nearly unplayable.

Paixao also ended up on the front pages of Telesport, which this morning ran the headline: ‘Paixao makes fun of Milan’. There is no doubting that he was the best player on the field, causing Kyle Walker no end of problems with his direct runs and his tricky, also hitting the bar in the first half.

The first round of the playoffs goes to Feyenoord. Telesport: "Paixao makes fun of Milan"

  1. Milan is being laughed at in The Netherlands. Leao, Felix with their annoying behaviour. Theo with his ridiculous hair and the totally non-Italian defense.
How dare you show up like this as a team in a Champions League game.

    1. And btw Sempremilan. This is not how you translate ‘een plaag zijn’. It’s not ‘to make fun’, but more being a ‘menace’ or a ‘thorn in the side’.

    2. Good. Not that we needed any further motivation, but we’ll take it. They can have their laughs until Tuesday. Then we will see who laughing last. They had one lucky shot and won. Big f’ing deal. And the have the audacity to talk about Theo’s hair, or the nationality of our defense? Lol. Aren’t these the same journalists that defend Feyenoord’s racist fandom.

And you are quoting them like we should care what dutch chatbots/journalists think? Lol

      1. Not the nationality of the defense. The defense as being not being good in defending (Italian teams have a good reputation). And you don’t understand how important it is how you show yourself as a club to the outside world?

How can next week be different. Against clubs with a worse reputation Milan never steps us. They haven’t shown any improvements since the beginning of the season in that kind of games.

Which racist fandom are you exactly talking about?
