Venezia boss hyperbolic about Milan: “They are the best team in Serie A”

By Oliver Fisher -

Venezia head coach Paolo Zanetti has sent some complimentary words in the direction of AC Milan, labelling them the best team in Serie A.

Milan faced Liverpool and Juventus with a depleted squad and not much has gotten better with the passing of a few days as there are at least six players unavailable for the game against Venezia.

Venezia meanwhile are back in the top flight for the first time in 19 years having been promoted from Serie B last year. They finished in fifth place but came up through the play-offs, though they are finding the adjustment hard as they already sit just one place above the relegation zone.

Zanetti spoke to reporters on the eve of the match against Milan which will be Venezia’s first at the San Siro since 2002, and he was full of praise for what Stefano Pioli has built with the help of a developing young core and some experienced players, of course.

“They have a fairly clear identity, they are the best team in Serie A, they have breadth, depth and they play between the lines, with all possible and imaginable weapons, we must try to counter them all and think about how we can put Milan in difficulty too, because if we play it on the defensive we have already lost,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

“We would play ninety minutes as spectators and I don’t want to do it, we will go there with great respect and the humility of the occasion, I will make some small adjustments, but we will have to make sure to put them in difficulty, not only with the thought of defending, otherwise it would be ninety minutes of agony.”
