MN: Pay hike and release clause – concrete developments expected on Bennacer’s renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

There is no longer the time for interlocutory meetings between the AC Milan management and Ismael Bennacer’s entourage as significant developments must come soon.

MilanNews write how Bennacer’s friendlies with Algeria during the break for the 2022 World Cup ended yesterday with a 1-1 draw against Sweden. Given the 2019 AFCON winners have not qualified for the tournament in Qatar, Bennacer will now go on holiday and will return for the training camp early in December.

Meanwhile, Milan will soon be busy trying to close the negotiations for the extension of his contract, with the break giving Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara the chance to talk more serenely with the player and his entourage, as Maldini himself confirmed.

“With Bennacer we will have the opportunity to speak with him and his agents in these days,” he said to Sky.

Previously there was an agreement at around €3m net per season, which then stalled at the crucial moment due to the arrival of the new owners RedBird Capital, with the player keen to understand their intentions.

Bennacer has asked for an increase in his salary, legitimising it with very convincing performances this season as he and the staff know there is no other player in the Rossoneri squad with his characteristics.

Milan do not want to lose the former Empoli man and will therefore try in the coming days to close a new agreement on the basis of €4m net per season plus bonuses (still to be agreed) and a release clause that will either be maintained, increased or eliminated.
