PBP: Milan await mercato opportunities in Premier League – one position in particular

By Ben Dixon -

The mercato has been open for some time now but has not entered the exciting stages due to the European Championship. However, with only two teams remaining, the mercato may begin to liven, and AC Milan are prepared.

It would be lovely if Paulo Fonseca had his full team available on his first day, including the players he would like to have at Milanello come the end of the mercato. Nevertheless, we live in the real world, and football does not work that way.

Instead, we must wait for moves to be made, and Milan must use the time to completely assess their options.

Of course, certain names are already concrete, and it is a matter of when, not if, but for other areas on the field, there are queries which remain open to opportunities. Today, a report has claimed that the Rossoneri view the Premier League as an opportunity waiting to open.

As Pietro Balzano Prota reports on his X account, several Premier League clubs have out-of-favour players, and these names could become mercato opportunities later in the summer. Whilst a ‘third’ striker is the main point of focus – which is maybe an insinuation towards Romelu Lukaku or Armando Broja – other roles are also being considered.

  1. If we want out of favour epl players, if the right opportunity comes up Rashford would be good signing. Ie on loan with option to buy. He has x factor like Leao. In 433 or 4231 he would do well.

Fofana from chelsea is good CB before his injuries. They spent 70m on him from Leicester but he won’t have a spot now. He is only 23-24 years old so worth a gamble. Same goes with Joe Gomez from Liverpool. Versatile and he had a good season last year. Like Tomori he is a fringe England international.

      1. Greenwood was top of my list but he is going to OM to play under De Zerbi. I was going to mention Dalot as RB but we didn’t keep him. Now his worth 50m. Mateta from Palace is good player too. He was the most inform CF in epl in second half of the season. Same with Palinhia as CDM from Fulham. His aggressiveness reminds me of Gattuso.

    1. I think they are looking for someone a little bigger to be the main striker. Rashford would be perfect for the Memphis role but overqualified.

    2. I think the problem with targeting EPL players is the salaries. A lot of these “flops” are really good players. Especially those in disaster clubs like ManUnited and Chelsea. Messi and Ronaldo prime could go to these clubs right now and still look average. Problem is, a rashford or greenwood are getting paid 10M+ . It isnt the fee, it’s the salary

  2. I hate the premier league.

My son is a Man City fan (he’s Mancunian but I still call him a glory hunter), so I have to endure the thing.

It’s the arrogance of the people around it that annoys me the most.

Your league has a better marketing strategy than ours; well done!!!

  3. I dont know why Moncada is so admired on Lukaku and Broja. One is in declining stage but still expensive, the other is injury prones
