Pedulla: Why Jonathan David is no longer Milan’s No.1 target

By Ben Dixon -

With AC Milan seemingly set to spend big on a new striker in the summer mercato, Alfredo Pedulla has suggested that the club’s preferences may have shifted somewhat.

Several names have been linked with being the heir to Olivier Giroud, and whilst ideas of a winter transfer were discussed, a summer move for a striker is the plan, with the club reportedly shortening their list to four names. Throughout this process, Jonathan David has been extensively named near the top of Milan’s list for several reasons.

Firstly, he is a proven goalscorer and is capable of meeting, or surpassing, expectations, as he has shown at Lille when tasked with replacing Victor Osimhen. Above all, though, he is a young striker with plenty of growth left to do, something which the Rossoneri will aim to capitalise on with their new striker.

However, there has been a shift in their preferences, according to Alfredo Pedulla. He spoke on Wednesday evening’s episode of SportItalia, and his comments have been relayed by RadioRossonera.

Can Jonathan David fit Milan?

“On the Canadian, I can say that he is a striker who is approaching the expiry of his contract and has a valuation that is going down, clearly. He’s no longer worth €60million. Milan have followed him alongside three or four other strikers, and I don’t think he’s at the top of the list.

“He has options in the Premier League. You have to see what Zirkzee does, you have to see other profiles. But if we don’t know the coach’s name for sure, I think it’s quite premature.”

  1. He was never worth 60mil. All we had to do was pull the trigger on OpenTable in the summer, but yet again, management chickened out and lost another quality player to a team with more ambition…

  2. He was never good enough, I was excited before last season about him, I am Canadian. After the World Cup, he was terrible for us against a Belgium team that was open for slaughter, invisible, unconvincing and a deer in the headlights.

    1. he convinced me, he was easy to break mentally , didn’t know how to compete, push through adversity and was drifting, no influence on the games. I lost any interest in this player.
