Pellegatti claims Conceicao ‘will not be the coach’ of Milan: “Who’s left?”

By Oliver Fisher -

Carlo Pellegatti has claimed that Sergio Conceicao will not be the next head coach of AC Milan, and at the moment there are no certainties as to who it will be.

Milan have already been linked with countless candidates to take over from Stefano Pioli as the next manager, from Julen Lopetegui and Maurizio Sarri to Thiago Motta and Conceicao, yet at present there is no clear idea.

Conceicao is the latest name and he is being pushed above all by La Gazzetta dello Sport, who reported earlier today that he wants to join Milan but must meet with Porto again before any final decisions are made.

Speaking on the Radio Rossonera YouTube channel, Pellegatti gave an update on the process to hire a new head coach and he stated that the names that continue to come out are the result of agents and not of communications that come directly from Milan.

“I understand the nervousness and bewilderment. Milan did not release any names. It is the newspapers that, thanks to the information coming from the agents, give the news,” he said.

“It was the same with Lopetegui, with Fonseca the same. I don’t know if they have already decided, but they are not the ones who are releasing these names. Names are continuing to be erased.

“If it’s true that Conceicao will not arrive, if it’s true that Thiago Motta is going to Juventus and that Conte isn’t considered, apart from De Zerbi – who costs a lot – then who’s left?

“On Gallardo they tell me that he earns a lot of salary. Marco Rose remains, but in that case the negotiation would already be closed. On Conceicao they confirmed to me that he will not be the coach of Milan. They told me to keep the Amorim track alive, but he decided to stay at Sporting CP.”

  1. They told you to keep the Amorim track alive but he decided to stay at Sporting rather quickly. Maybe the opposite will happen with Conceição too according to what they told you. Anyway “they” doesn’t sound all that reliable to me.

    1. Pelligatti is a clown and really says nothing meaningful in this interview. The only thing he is certain of that he talks for the sake of talking.
Pelligatti looks more intelligent if he keeps silent, but them ACM management are more and more looking vulnerable than ever. Shit!
A club that has success on field is a club that has superior management

      1. Turp per ty qe duket je shqipar dhe flet keq per Pellegatin. Gazetari sportiv me serioz dhe me I kulturuar qe une njoh ne median italiane.

  2. I think that instead, it is rather likely that Conceição will be our coach. News from Portugal indicate that Villas-Boas, Porto’s new president, considers the contract that Conceição signed with the outgoing president to be absurd, and there is a clause that either party can cancel the contract with no penalty, in case of a change in Porto’s leadership (and a change did indeed occur, so this contract is all but void). It’s significant that multi-sport club Porto had all their head coaches for all their multiple sports present at Villas-Boas inauguration as the new president, except… Conceição, who was a buddy of the outgoing president; the new president seems to want to populate Porto with his own trusted people, not keeping the ones who were the outgoing guy’s people (after all, Villas-Boas is a rival of the ex-president).

Both Porto and Milan have indicated that they will not release any official position before the end of the season, out of respect for both Pioli and Conceição. But I think that there are hints that maybe Milan and Conceição are already holding secret talks.

Here is why: for the longest time, Zirkzee seemed to be our #1 target for the striker position. Then, Portuguese sources indicated that Conceição doesn’t like Zirkzee and prefers Sesko. Have you all noticed that suddenly, it seems like Milan has moved from Zirkzee being the #1 target, to Sesko being the #1?

Sesko’s agents are currently in Milano. I think that this is significant; likely Conceição is already influencing our mercato. I’m not sure if Sesko will come (Leipzig apparently don’t want to sell him and keep raising the release clause amount). But the simple fact that Milan seem to have moved towards an effort to get Sesko right after it was publicized that Conceição preferred Sesko to Zirkzee, I find to be significant.

Anyway, I think this could be my wishful thinking, because I do prefer Conceição over any other name that has been floated around, maybe with the exception of Thiago Motta, who, as we know, is more likely to join Juve. In the absence of Motta, I think Conceição is the best name; way better than mediocre Fonseca and mediocre Lopetegui (thank God he is gone), and way way way better than Joe Nobody Van Bommel (God forbid we get Van Bommel; I think he is worse than Pioli).

    1. It’s not Milan moving targets. It’s the media moving them from one target to another to attract more viewership. If they kept pushing one name only then the interest would eventually fade.

If you constantly bring up more names, more readers will “click” and comment. Just look the articles on this site….

It is because Milan releases nothing that none of this should be taken seriously until the end of season.

  3. Before people lose their minds at yet another confounding article about the next coach, just read the words. Pellegatti himself says the club has released nothing. All of the information is coming from agents/periodicals. In other words it’s pure speculation, which then Pellagatti just goes on to repeat and further speculate. So more speculation.

So let me speculate a little myself: It seems like the Motta track has grown cold. Interestingly so has the Zirkzee track. Then over the past few days we’ve been seeing more news about Sesko. Pellegatti also says, “Marco Rose remains, but in that case the negotiation would already be closed.” This is interesting to me. Go back to the “Milan do not release any names” comment. Could this all be related? What if IT IS Marco Rose, and what if the negotiation IS closed, and that’s why no names are being release, and why suddenly we’re being link much more with Sesko? If Motta/Zirkzee made sense as a package, so might Rose/Sesko (although it seems Rose prefers Openda, but that might be due to the fact that he may consider Openda to be more game ready at 24 than Sesko at 20, but this is an interesting contradiction to my own theory).

        1. True, and I usually point to the same factors as reasons we won’t hire a coach that uses 3-5-2. But going from 4-4-2 to 4-2-3-1 is not a huge change. But should he stick with 4-4-2 he could try to use Leao up front with say, Sesko, with Pulisic and Chuk as more traditional wingers. Puli can certainly do the defensive work, not so sure about Chuk.

  4. Pretty sure Milan already have their coach picked out and are waiting for the end of the season to announce Pioli’s departure and the new appointment.
