The idea of signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna is likely to remain a dream for AC Milan according to Carlo Pellegatti, who believes that he is already too expensive.
Zirkzee has eight goals and two assists in 17 games for Bologna this season, and his latest big performance came during their win over Inter in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night, when he provided two excellent assists for Beukema and Ndoye.
There have been reports suggesting that Zirkzee has overtaken Jonathan David in the Rossoneri’s list of preferences as they look for a new striker, especially if Olivier Giroud were to leave. The competition ahead of next summer will be fierce though with his value rising game by game at the moment, it seems.
During the ‘Pelle Rossonera’ segment on Radio Rossonera, Pellegatti spoke about the latest transfer news regarding Milan and in particular Zirkzee, including the chances of it happening.
“Would you spend 40 million on Zirkzee today? It’s a superfluous question: we don’t spend 40 million on a single player either in January or in the summer. Right or wrong, it will be like this,” he said.
“Personally, next year I wouldn’t do anything apart from a few little switches to the left (where we were close to getting Calafiori, a shame) and I would only sign Zirkzee. At that point, the team would still be complete.
“Be careful though, as a type he reminds me of Kakà: not a centre-forward, not a winger, but capable of scoring from all positions. Do Milan like Zirkzee? Officially, this name was never mentioned to me.
“However, I don’t feel like excluding him, knowing the environment it seems strange to me that they could go for players who are already ‘gone’ like him. Unfortunately I don’t think he is part of the strategies of this command group.
“Another ‘Giroud-style’ striker? No, but not even a Taremi. I would go for a less experienced player, even though there aren’t many around. I’ll give you a name at the beginning of February. I would be calm with a player like Morata.
“Guirassy is having an extraordinary season, as Thuram hasn’t done much before today. The question is: is this a player like Toni, who suddenly emerges at 28? It’s about putting in a little money, 17 million, but I don’t know if there is this budget for January. There is a rumor that he is not very convinced about leaving Stuttgart in January.”
So we won’t spend 40m on a striker who has all the tools to go to the top, yet we’ll spend close to 30m for a backup RW in Chuk who doesn’t have top potential. Ok..
Lololol 😂
and weren’t there rumors abt them willing to pay up to 40m for that bum david?
Won’t spend 40 mil of Zee but David for 40 mil is ok? 🙂
“Guirassy is having an extraordinary season, as Thuram hasn’t done much before today”
Wait, what!??? Dude is off his rocker. Not sure what he meant by Thuram hasn’t done much before today but Thuram has been pretty good for Inter. And scores or assists in big games. That’s an odd one there Pellegati
Kaka at the price he was bought was and would still remain milans shrewd signing for decades. I don’t know why the management put a price limit for players.
Based on the trend under the current ownership, Milan’s highest limit for an individual transfer is around 30mil (for CDK). Add that with Saelemaekers, who has an option-to-buy clause valued at 10 mil, you would get the 40 mil required to sign him. Hence, imo, a transfer for zirkzee is still feasible. I strongly believe signing him next season to solve our striker issue would be the best transfer decision by the club, with either jovic or colombo as the rotation option.
