Pellegatti compares Milan’s ‘gruelling’ sessions under Fonseca to those of Conte

By Oliver Fisher -

Carlo Pellegatti has shed some light on the intensity of the training sessions that Paulo Fonseca and his coaching staff are having the squad undergo at Milanello.

According to what was reported by multiple sources on day one of preseason and what has been seen in practice so far, the squad will be subjected to double training sessions to try and get them back to 100% after some time off.

One of the benefits is that this extra time on the training ground will also give Fonseca more time to explain his tactical ideas and the playing style he wants for the Rossoneri. However, there will almost certainly be a strength and conditioning aspect to the work too.

Pellegatti spoke on Radio Rossonera and he began by commenting on the fact that the squad have lost experience with the departures and the need for that to be addressed in the mercato.

“As for the experienced players, having lost Giroud and Kjaer, I totally agree with bringing in players with knowledge, who have won and know what it means to play at a high level. The captain of the national team that won the European Championship. I’m happy with this situation regarding Morata.

“If Saelemaekers stays, I’m happy, but I think the sale is needed to raise money, there’s no talk of Musah, Milan doesn’t want to sell him. None of last year’s players are leaving.”

The journalist went on to speak about the intensity that Fonseca is asking for in the preparation for the new season during his first couple of weeks at Milanello, ahead of a demanding schedule.

“They tell me that Fonseca’s training sessions are gruelling, in fact in view of tomorrow’s match there will be a team on the pitch that has just finished four double training sessions a week. They are the same very tough training sessions as Conte.

“The program: two double training sessions today, departure tomorrow morning, the match, rest on Sunday and until the departure for the USA always double, so he is a coach who makes the team work a lot with intensity and strength.”
