Pellegatti: Milan may not sign a new right-back as Conti will be evaluated in preseason

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could keep Andrea Conti as a back-up to Davide Calabria and will evaluate him in preseason, according to one journalist.

At the moment Milan consider their options on the right side to be Davide Calabria and Pierre Kalulu after Diogo Dalot returned to Manchester United following the conclusion of his loan spell. There has been an abundance of speculation suggesting Milan want Dalot back, and if not then Real Madrid’s Alvaro Odriozola could be an option, but there may also be an internal solution.

According to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, it cannot be ruled out that the Rossoneri management decide to bet on Conti as the No.2 in the right-back role and they are likely to assess him in preseason.

“Before diving into an alternative to Calabria, Milan would like to understand Conti’s psycho-physical conditions. A player who returns to Milan and who could easily be the deputy Calabria, without the need to take another. We already have it… We will see how he will train and then eventually we will examine other possibilities,” he said (via MilanLive).

If he were to convince in training at Milanello, maybe Stefano Pioli might not need a new deputy to Calabria. However, his contract does expire in June 2022 and only with a renewal would he remain.

  1. When Conti came to Milan, he was playing very well. But then there was that unfortunate accident when he was playing for the nazzionale. If he can recover his former shape, we don’t need an alternative.

  2. Conti was supposed to be the best Italian right back if not for that horrible incident in the nationale.
I said keep him. He can cross better than Calabria does.
