AC Milan have had a slow start to the summer mercato, which is frustrating some. However, there is blame to be placed on certain people.
It is difficult to reset things in a few weeks, but Milan never expected to do that. Instead, the goals were realistic from the start, rather to have a rework – a less extreme start to Igli Tare’s time in Milano. Of course, for some, that is not enough.

Two signings have been made, but there is no hiding from the fact that the Rossoneri need more, and whilst it is a start, it cannot be the case for much longer.
Not to blame
As the squad prepares for the pre-season camp, there is another four signings required, at least, to make the Diavolo competitive. However, rather than blaming the new sporting director, Carlo Pellegatti states that others need to be held accountable, as MilanNews relays from his Instagram.

Management wasted too much time and lost the opportunity to get Berta, then alternated between him and Paratici only to “remember” that the later can’t work before july.
I guess Tare can blame himself though for accepting to work in this mayhem where the chances of success are low and where he can end up being a scapegoat if everything fails.
Tare was reportedly in a meeting with Gerry and Zlatan where everything was agreed. But then that little backstabbing ratface Furlani came along armed with his lawyers to make sure everyone knew who’s the shot caller. And now, here we are.

for now the biggest transfer is Mr Allegri.
Stop complaining about transfer targets moving to the EPL. Their 20th place team earns 4 times more prize money finishing 20th than Serie A teams get for winning the Scudetto. There’s a reason why they can freely spend all that money to start bidding wars.

Just like the lat few off seasons, articles come out about stalling, collapsing, being out-bid b/c we took too long, clubs being mad that we come creeping up to well known asking prices. Yet, all the articles always end with “but there’s time”. Yea, there’s time until there isn’t and not all business can be done inside the same 2 week period. The only signings we’ve had are from pre agreements, everything else is stalled almost beyond saving. We still have NO concrete striker leads and NO LB/RB leads. Maybe they’ll change Serie A and make it a 9V9 league and we’ll luck out. Quick to sell and slow to buy. Allegri may get his wish and he’ll have a VERY small squad to coach. Just hope they have enough to field a full 11.

in case you hadn’t noticed, we don’t have the budget for any real quality. So Tare is back to “Lotito” mode of barrel scraping, while this managements nets 100mil from Tiji and Theo.
Signing players from Serie A isn’t scraping the barrel. Boniface and Jackson are overpriced. Lucca would be available for a lot less, as would Pinamonti. Until they get out of the habit of signing Eurotrash, this charade will continue every season.
That’s the point. We aren’t linked with either Lucca or Pinamonti. All those proceeds and we lose 8mil targets.

We need a solid (right) CB too, 5 positions/names, not “just” 4.
I see the Teds around here still don’t understand Furlani’s job. He has very little to do with the targets, he deals with the contracts. What he is to blame for is the botched sale of Musah.
Furlani is in charge of everything related to money. He’s the laquais of Gordon Singer and Elliott Management. But the fact is that even with Tare here, our negotiation tactics of low balling haven’t changed at all. So who’s really calling the shots?
Tare doesn’t seem to have much flexibility.
Low balling? €35 million for Jashiri isn’t low balling. We’re not an EPL club or a Saudi Pro League club. There’s a reason other Serie A club’s haven’t made major signings either.
Where did they start though? Remember how long it took to get to 35? So long that the Belgians are done with it altogether.
And if they value him at 40mil for whatever reason then 35mil is still low balling it, no matter what we think about it.
It is not low balling. Anytime we go in for a player, their value suddenly increases because clubs still think it’s the 2000s. Which player we negotiated with, but missed out on went on to be sold for a lot more? None of them.
Ok but we don’t move on to different targets either if we think their evaluation is too high. We continue to haggle and nickel and dime other clubs into annoyance, almost. So they are like “pay X or eff off”.
Tare has a hard on for Jashari and is holding a chunk of our funds because of it instead of moving on to other targets. We have a lot of needs but we’re still waiting for a miracle of Brugge.
Let’s face it. Tare only came because the failed Paratici move. And Allegri was only hired because Conte confirmed his position with Napoli. Still don’t know want to judge anyone tho, let’s see ‘till this market is closed.
Correction, there was no Paratici failed move.
Paratici was suspended and couldn’t have started before july, so basically even negociating with him was a waste of time. If Paratici was hired, we might not even have a coach, Ricci or Modrić.
That’s the point. From the report, we made an official move to hire him, however it panned out in the end. Daniel Longo even once reported Paratici to Milan was 99% done. The point is that Tare was not even the first (or second) choice to begin with.
Once again I’m not saying Tare is worse or anything, in fact quite the contrary. Seeing us settling down for second or third choice is a regular scenery now. And there’s something wrong causing that.
So the players from last season that are gone, and the ones that should be sold:
– Reijnders (his salary was 1.7 M net before the renewal), sold for 55 M
– Theo (4 M), sold for 25 M
– Kalulu, sold for 14 M
– Jovic (2.5 M)
– Tammy (4.5 M)
– Florenzi (3 M)
– Calabria (2 M)
I’m not including Morata because that deal is a little confusing, don’t know how much Milan paid him as salary last season, and don’t know if this coming season, if he stays at Galatasaray, if Milan will pay anything for him.
So at the moment, july 14, Milan has gotten 94 M in transfer fees (from Reijnders, Kalulu and Theo), and has liberated around 17-18 M net in salaries (from the players listed above)
Milan should sell:
– Either Tomori (for 18-20 M, has salary of 3.5 M net) or Thiaw (for 15-18 M, salary 0.8 M net). Should be Tomori, has not justified his salary in the last seasons.
– Emerson (for 8-10 M, salary 2.5 M)
– Bennacer (for 15 M, salary 3.8 M) wouldn’t mind keeping him, if he can stay fit he is a very good player, but probably he is wanting to go and close this chapter in his career.
– Adli (for 10 M, salary 0.8 M)
– Musah (for 20 M, salary 2 M)
– Loftus-Cheek (for 12 M, salary 4 M) news are that Allegri counts with him, but too injury prone, and definetely does not justifies his salary, after Leao he is the best paid player in the squad (same salary as Pulisic, and Chukwueze who is another one that does not justifies his salary)
– Pobega (for 8-10 M, salary 1 M) i’m ok if he ends up staying as depth for the squad
– Okafor (for 12-15 M, salary 1 M) i’m also ok if he stays
– Chukwueze (for 12-15 M, salary 4 M) does not justifies at all his salary
F. Terraciano, D. Vasquez and Colombo should be sold, but won’t detail them since they represent between the 3 combined like 1.5 M net, and like 8 M between the three that could maybe go into the accounts if they are sold.
So you could potentially have around 200 M (little more/ little less, and that number is considering selling the players at the lowest sell option that i wrote for each) from selling those players, and around 40 M net freed up in salaries (and even more if they could find a way to terminate Origi’s contract, who is earning like 4-4.5 M net/ year)
And so far Milan has gotten:
– Ricci (for 23 M, salary will be 2.5 M net)
– Modric (salary 3.5 M net)
So Milan could have like a 180 M budget for the rest of the signings (and that is just by re-investing money that could be from sales, not counting money from the management, and ok let’s leave it at that since supposedly by not qualifying for Champions there are expected losses of 60-80 M, so let’s say that the money they would have approved for signings will go to mitigate that 60-80 M loss)
And signings needed are (minimum):
1 left back, 1 right back, 1 center forward, 1 centerback (Tomori should definetely leave, so another CB would be needed), 1 more midfielder (Loftus, Musah should leave, and very likely Bennacer, Adli will leave, and maybe also Pobega could leave).
So for this coming season Milan squad could be:
GK – Maignan, Sportiello (or another back up option), and a 3rd choice maybe Torriani again.
LB – Bartesaghi and a new player (spend no more than 25M)
RB – Jimenez and a new player (spend no more than 20M)
CB – Gabbia, Pavlovic, Thiaw and a new player (spend no more than 30M)
Midfield – Fofana, Bondo, Modric, Ricci, + a new player (spend no more than 40M)
Forwards – Pulisic, Saelemaekers, Leao, Gimenez + one, or two new players if both Okafor and Chukwueze leave (spend no more than 60 M if it’s for 1 center forward, or no more tan 80 M if it’s for a striker plus a winger back up)
And notice that the 40 M net liberated in salaries, even if it’s not Tomori the one sold but Thiaw, then ok let’s bring down that 40 M to 37 M, if you take 37 M net and deduct 2.5 M net for Ricci and 3.5 M net for Modric, you still have 31 M net, divided in 6 more signings = 5.17 M net each, and of course it does not have to be that way, because if Leao is the best paid player at 5 M, Pulisic at 4 M, and Modric coming in at 3.5 M, then new signings could seat between 2 – 3.5 M net/ year.
So, money is there. Sales need to happen? yes true, but the money is definetely there, so the management could release the money for the technical director to work fast and secure in this transfer market the objestives, and then the money can be recovered when the sales are done.
What options as new signings?
– CB: Guéhi only has 1 more year with Crystal Palace, so maybe Milan offer them Tomori +cash? (but rumours are that Liverpool wants him, with Konaté also ending contract at the end of the season. So probably if a club buys Konaté, Liverpool will go for Guéhi)
Leoni from Parma. But supposedly it would take 40 M to get him from Parma, big fee for a young player who has played not even 20 serie A games. Liverpool are also on to him, so if that happens, then club can go back to Guéhi.
They should have gone for Mosquera, that at some point there were news of Milan scouting him, but he is going to Arsenal for like 18 M, or they should have looked at Facundo Medina from Lens was interesting, but has gone to Marseille with loan+buy option for around a total of 20 M.
Antonio Silva from Benfica has a contract expiring in 2027, but they just sold Carreras to Real Madrid for 50 M (Benfica always getting big fees from their sales), when his market value (per transfermarkt) is 35. And besides Silva, Benfica only has 2 other CB, and 1 of them is veteran Otamendi, so would most likely be very hard to get this player for 30-35 M

Midfield: news are that Allegri will play a 4-3-3, and using Modric as Deep Lying Playmaker (DLP). If so, i guess the idea will be to have Fofana and Ricci protecting the DLP, with Bondo also doing that role. Andwe have that Milan has been pushing for Jashari. I just have the question of, if Modric plays as DLP, who else will play there? because Modric is closer to retire than to play for many more years, so maybe Allegri sees Ricci or Jashari adapting to a DLP? if that’s the case then let’s say Modric and another player (Ricci or another player) being the DLP, so that would leave you with Fofana, Bondo, and let’s assume either Ricci or Jashari as CM, so besides Jashari, another player would be needed. Here you can leave Pobega as CM, or go for Xhaka for 12-15 M. Xhaka and Modric as experienced, champions players, would be great to go along young players. Javi Guerra was also mentioned, but i don’t see him as a CM that will be more on the defensive side to protect the DLP.
I would really like for the club to try for Angelo Stiller, but could be around 40 M or more.
Højbjerg would be good option.

Still is amazing how come club didn’t try for Osimhen, they could have offered 40-50 M cash plus Musah who was of interest to Napoli, and maybe Okafor if they still wanted him, or any other player that the team needs to sell that could have been of interest to Napoli.
Or how come they didn’t try for Jonathan David, so many summers before there were news of Milan keeping an eye on him, and this summer they could have hired him for free, but Juventus is the club that got him.
As for wingers, back up wingers if both Chukwueze and Okafor leave. Saelemaekers should be back up for Pulisic, so Chukw can leave, and if Okafor also leaves, then options as back up for Leao could be: i would go for min Son, an experienced player, good player, someone from whom the rest of players can learn about discipline and dedication. Or i would have Saele as Leao back up and go for Berardi as Pulisic back up.
