Photo: Milan’s tactics wrong from the start as Pioli played into Inter’s hands

AC Milan were convincingly beaten by Inter in the Derby della Madonnina last night, as the Nerazzurri prevailed 5-1 in the end. Stefano Pioli has been heavily criticised for his tactics and one can understand why.

The Rossoneri struggled to keep up with the counter-attacks of Inter and also failed to break down the compact Simone Inzaghi side. The inverted full-back solution, in that sense, only seemed to do more harm than good.

As highlighted by Scout7Calcio on Twitter, Milan’s tactics played into the hands of Inter as the latter didn’t have to change their formation to pick up the players. Davide Calabria was quickly picked up in the middle and would have done more good by stretching the game on the right flank instead.
