The first 11 minutes was a nightmare for Milan as they conceded twice, and from there they looked all over the shop with Inter wasting multiple chances to put the tie to bed before a quarter of it had been played.

There was a second half recovery in energy and overall play from Milan, and though it was not enough to yield a goal Pioli told Milan TV that he thinks it is something to build from.

“Of course we didn’t want to start like that, but they were more precise technically, better at winning the duels and second balls, and conceding two quick goals obviously caused us problems,”

“We reacted well. We played well in the second half, but just couldn’t get that goal which would have given us a boost to try and turn it around.

“Honestly, it’s not that we wanted to just hold on at 2-0. We wanted to score and take control of the game. We had the chances to get back into it.

“We absolutely need to build on that second half. Of course, we need to put in a performance with more quality, care, everything.

“If we want to turn it around, and I think we have a chance, we have to play much better. We’re disappointed because we wanted a different performance, and a different result. We didn’t get that, but that should help us to find the determination and desire that we need for the comeback.

“Serie A is important, as is the Champions League, so I’ll try to make better choices so that we play better and win against Spezia and then try to come back from this result.”
