Pioli takes responsibility for Milan’s setbacks: “The club gave me the ingredients”

During today’s presser, previewing the game against Atalanta, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli shared his thoughts on various topics. When asked about how they can improve, he seemingly took responsibility for the mishaps this season.

Milan will be looking to bounce back with a win tomorrow evening, having lost 4-2 to Monza and then 3-2 to Stade Rennes, and Pioli knows just how important the game is. Also for his own sake, having been criticised for his selection against Monza.

During today’s press conference, he was asked about how Milan can improve given that there is a lot of potential in this squad. He seemingly took responsibility for the mishaps, even though there have been a lot of individual mistakes from the players as well.

“The club gave me the right ingredients to have a balanced and competitive team. In Monza, we conceded two avoidable goals. Even with 10 men, at 2-2, we wanted to win the match because this is the team’s mentality,” he stated.

Pioli will most likely leave Milan at the end of the season and while Antonio Conte is looking for a return to Italy, he’s not the primary target. Thiago Motta is a strong candidate, meanwhile, currently sitting four points behind Milan in the standings.
