Pioli takes responsibility for Milan’s setbacks: “The club gave me the ingredients”

By Isak Möller -

During today’s presser, previewing the game against Atalanta, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli shared his thoughts on various topics. When asked about how they can improve, he seemingly took responsibility for the mishaps this season.

Milan will be looking to bounce back with a win tomorrow evening, having lost 4-2 to Monza and then 3-2 to Stade Rennes, and Pioli knows just how important the game is. Also for his own sake, having been criticised for his selection against Monza.

During today’s press conference, he was asked about how Milan can improve given that there is a lot of potential in this squad. He seemingly took responsibility for the mishaps, even though there have been a lot of individual mistakes from the players as well.

“The club gave me the right ingredients to have a balanced and competitive team. In Monza, we conceded two avoidable goals. Even with 10 men, at 2-2, we wanted to win the match because this is the team’s mentality,” he stated.

Pioli will most likely leave Milan at the end of the season and while Antonio Conte is looking for a return to Italy, he’s not the primary target. Thiago Motta is a strong candidate, meanwhile, currently sitting four points behind Milan in the standings.

  1. Balanced? Then you don’t know what balance is. This midfield is completely out of it.

And 3rd spott is not guaranteed anymore. If Atalanta win they’ll only be 4 points from us and they still have one game more in pocket.

    1. More or less he is saying I have everything I need to have a balanced team. But I haven’t managed to do the job.

He is admitting to his flaws, which I respect.

He has reached his “ceiling” and with pioli we will be a top 5 team and a EL team.

I appreciate him for bringing us up from being mid table team to top 5.

Now we need to move forward and get back to Scudetto challengers and reaching latter stages of CL.

      Thank you Pioli, ciao Pioli!🔥

      1. I completely understood what he’s trying to say but there’s one ingredient missing to have a balanced team. A proper DM. And he decided against it, thinking he’ll just put fullbacks in the middle to cover instead. That backfired quickly.

So no, this team is not constructed properly and characteristics he sought are not in line with how he thought he’ll play.

        1. “this team is not constructed properly and characteristics he sought are not in line with how he thought he’ll play”

          100000% facts!

  2. Still not sure about Pioli continuing myself. I want to see a material improvement in defense with Tomori and Kalulu back before I accept that he should continue.

That said, a Man stood up and said I have what I need and _he_ can do better because he got what he needed. Mad respect Coach. You may not be my choice of coach sir, but I appreciate and admire your approach to leadership.

We could be enduring Tuchel blaming players. We could be enduring Morhino football and moaning about the wrong players. We appear to be lining up Conte to moan about the same.

Forza Milan. Pick a winner not a whiner.
