Pioli could field unprecedented three-man backline against Tottenham

AC Milan will take on Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and after the win against Torino, Stefano Pioli will only make a few changes to the XI. In fact, he could field an unprecedented defence.

The Rossoneri managed to end their poor run of form by beating Torino on Friday evening and the 3-4-3 seemingly did the trick. As such, Pioli will continue with the formation for the game against Tottenham.

As was reported by Tuttosport this morning, Fikayo Tomori has recovered from his injury and he should start in the heart of the three-man backline. Pierre Kalulu is expected to be on the right and Malick Thiaw, who has impressed lately, will get the spot to the left.

This would be an unprecedented three-man backline for Milan. In the game against Fiorentina prior to the World Cup break, they used a similar XI with the three aforementioned defenders but it was still a four-man backline.

Probable Milan XI (3-4-1-2): Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw; Saelemaekers (Calabria), Bennacer, Tonali, Hernandez; Krunic; Giroud, Leao.
