Tuttosport: Milan’s probable XI for Spurs clash – duo returns; Thiaw to start

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are currently gearing up to take on Tottenham in the Champions League Round of 16. After the win against Torino, the Rossoneri will be heading into the clash with at least some confidence.

It has been a tough year for Milan thus far but the hope is that they can continue on a positive path after the win against Torino. On Tuesday, however, they will face tough opposition in the shape of Tottenham.

According to Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.com), Stefano Pioli is expected to continue with a three-man backline but it’s not certain if it will be a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-5-2. Ismael Bennacer and Fikayo Tomori will be back, which is a huge boost, and they should start.

On the right flank, Pioli will have to decide between Davide Calabria and Alexis Saelemaekers. The latter did well against Torino and might be slightly ahead at the moment, even if the manager often favours Calabria.

Up front, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao will start again given their importance and the only question mark is the attacking midfielder role. Instead of Brahim Diaz, Rade Krunic could be the chosen one as he would be able to alternate with Sandfro Tonali, who likes to move forward at times.

Probable Milan XI (3-4-1-2): Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw; Saelemaekers (Calabria), Bennacer, Tonali, Hernandez; Krunic; Giroud, Leao.

  1. The line up will be

    Tatarusanu;Kalulu-Kjaer-Thiaw;Salemakers-Bennacer-Tonali-Theo;Diaz / Messias-Giroud-Leao

I doubt Tomori would start straight after he recovered from hip injury. Pioli will save him for Monza.

And i doubt Krunic will play as RW. Either Pioli play Diaz, Messias, or Rebic in there.

  2. CDK has been beyond awful. He may be an option off the bench. Giving he is out of his depth in Serie A, champions league is deeper again.
Krunic or vranckx or Pobega are options who can drop into midfield and help out.
    We need to be solid

    1. You’re joking, right? We’re crap with or without CDK so why not try him in the team as an attacking midfield option. Do you honestly think Tonali and Krunic are going to give us goals? Come on.

      1. He is literally the worst player of the season, including tata.
If he finds some confidence great, we can’t afford to carry him. He’ll freeze harder than ice on that stage

If we can control midfield, we can control the game and anything is possible

  3. Terrible formation. We already lack quality in midfield so why play 3 defensively-minded midfielders? Bennacer, Tonali AND Krunic are the worst midfield trio we could possibly play. Diaz or CDK have to start. Pioli is a clown, man. This guy needs to leave our club. Thanks but it’s time to go.
