Player Ratings: Como 1-2 AC Milan – Leao decisive; Morata struggles

AC Milan came back from one goal behind to win against Como this evening, clinching their first three points under Sergio Conceicao. Rafael Leao ended up being decisive and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (6.5): The goal conceded was mostly Theo’s fault, of course, but we have seen Maignan let in quite a lot of strikes at the near post. It’s something to keep an eye on anyway. In the dying minutes of the game, he made a crucial reflex save to preserve the three points, and that bumped his rating up a lot.

Emerson Royal (5.5): In the first half, he was very poor in attack with slow movement and taking too much time on the ball in crossing situations. He also got beaten at the back. In the second half, however, he stood his ground and actually won the battle against his man (who threw himself to the ground all the time) and he was decent enough in attack. Still, a 5.5 is justified here because we cannot afford 45 very poor minutes.

Tomori (6): It looked a bit shaky as it often does for the Englishman at the start of the game, but I have to say he improved and played to his strengths. By no means spectacular, we still need to see better passing from him, but good enough against a team of Como’s calibre.

Thiaw (6): He was carded in the first half for a late challenge on the edge of the box, but aside from that he defended really well. Above all, and we keep saying this, his passing was pivotal in the build-up with some great long balls and vertical passes.

Hernandez (6): He lost a lot of 1v1s with his man, as seen on the goal. It simply wasn’t good enough from the Frenchman and it’s very difficult to rate him tonight. Because of course, his strike – albeit lucky – was decisive in the turnaround. He gets a pass as such, but only just.

Bennacer (5.5): It wasn’t dreadful, let’s make that clear, but he’s still lacking positional awareness to find his place on the pitch. He also attempted too many difficult moves in possession, resulting in lost balls in dangerous situations.

Fofana (5.5): Just like his colleagues, it was a performance that unfortunately included more negative than positive actions. He pressed way too high on the goal conceded, made some questionable decisions in attack and struggled overall with the balance.

Reijnders (5.5): The Dutchman misses a huge chance to give Milan the lead in the first half. Arguably, he should have put that one away. He also had several poor touches in attack, even if his corner to Gabbia was decisive in a sense. In fact, that corner is what saved him from getting a 5 here.

Pulisic (N/A): He went out injured at the end of the first half, following a challenge which seemed to affect his ankle. The Como defenders really battered him in the duels before that so it was coming, but of course we cannot give a rating tonight.

Morata (5): You would think with his experience that he would know better, but he was way too sluggish on the ball. More than one good counter-attacking move was squandered/slowed down as a result of his possession spells. On top of that, he was carded and will miss the Juve game.

Leao (7.5 – MOTM): The goal was fantastic, not just because it completed the turnaround, but also because he displayed great confidence by dinking it. Even before the goal, though, he was involved in all positive attacking moves. For example, he should have had an assist for Reijnders after a great run.

Substitutes

Abraham (6.5): No big changes missed from him this time out, but instead a very nice assist for Leao to win Milan the game. He had a positive impact and worked hard in the dying minutes as well. Nearly a 7 just because of how good that assist was.

Jimenez (6): Like many others tonight, he was carded but it’s clear he also added necessary acceleration and energy on the flank, mostly in the defensive phase.

Musah (6): He handled the defensive midfield role well along with Reijnders during the turnaround, so that counts for something.

Gabbia (6): As expected, he was useful on set pieces and helped Milan score the first goal with his header as well as positioning.

Camarda (N/A): We probably did see enough to give him a rating, but it was mostly working hard in defence.

  1. Reasonable rating.
We should rate team as a team play, fluidity of game nd everything. Team game play is maximum 3,5/10.
Very bad game play. And if something drastically doesn’t, change Milan will be very soon in poor position. Not just in Serie A table list, but in political situation what should they do with all these players ?
If you have so many names in this team, and now second rate salary in serie a, and fifth – 10th result in the league, question is do you need these players for this league result ?
Red Bird logic is falling apart currently and as I said, if something doesn’t change drastically….

  2. Abraham has for sure earned a start. I like Morata but the man needs a break. Much like Theo at the start of the season (and still now), the players who went to the final of the Euros just had no rest at all.

Very poor performance with a lucky break that helped, no real shining lights. For me that was much worse than the Cagliari game.

  3. Nothing good to say here. About as bad as you can play and still somehow get a win.
Anyone who thinks they see some positive change from Fonseca to Conceicao is just fooling themselves. Have not played any better, perhaps just a little bit luckier.
I don’t know why we don’t play with 2 up top, every time we go to it it works better but they seem reluctant to start the game that way.
Tammy is the better option up top. If they want to play 2 up top with Morata and Abraham together that would be ok, but Morata as a lone striker is not going to cut it. I get the work rate but that’s just not enough.
Hope Pulisic is not injured badly.

    1. Our main problem is summer shopping was very poor. Morata doesn’t score same goes to Abraham then Emerson is poor everyday only Fofana but he is sometimes very sluggish makes alot mistakes. Even if we have a better coach than concecao he will still struggle with these player wrongly bought. But still concecao is a better coach than Fonseca

  4. Is it my impression or Reijinders seems to be somewhat tired and so playing far below of what he is capable? A good sub feels urgent…

Morata is SO inert and static…

  5. As a team, ACM gets a 4.5. There was no connection between players. Often a single pass to a player that had nowhere to go was it. Emerson does not see passes or holds on to the ball too long before passing. The midfield does not attack to push the ball forward. At least Musah is aggressive in this area. Fofana… well it’s becoming obvious that he can’t consistently make an accurate pass and he should never shoot again.

  6. Another masterclass put on by the lads. Emerson with his trademark donkey performance and Tomori yelling at everyone. The Middlefield as a disaster and the only half way decent player was Bennacer who was subbed off and replaced with more donkeys. If we were playing even a mid table team we would be going home empty handed. It looks like Conceicao should be named coach cup. His yelling at the players has gotten old and it will blow up in his face if the results don’t change.

  7. If Gabbia and Calabria aren’t starting next game, I’m gonna start asking questions. The amount of useless down our right hand side today, especially after puli went out, was abysmal. Idc if the manager has favorites, you have to acknowledge the blindingly obvious. We desperately need midfield reinforcement because fofana and reijnders look about 40yrs old out there. Ricci/frendrup are needed asap. No attacking reinforcement is probably since okafor failed his medical

    1. This. We need to start Gabbia and Calabria and we need a striker, and then maybe another midfielder. But we’re set to waste money on KYLE WALKER. Why? Only God knows;-)

For those interested in savior Kyle Walker (probably the same folks favoring Tomori over Gabbia), read this:

      nytimes.com/athletic/6055421/2025/01/13/the-crisis-of-kyle-walker/?onboarded=true

        1. Agreed, idk why were so happy to bring in a 34yr old past it player on gargantuan wages whos been in awful form for over a year. We could buy 2 better RBs in our own league for his price. Not to mention off the field he’s a human trashcan

    2. Indeed. Even blind people can see that Calabria and Gabbia should be starters. It’s beyond idiotic to field Emerson when even a trashcan could do his job better.

  8. Glad for the win but that was an utter trash performance and I almost turned it off at half time but nevertheless ended up watching it in its entirety.
Only positive really for me is the 3 points won and not so sure my patience will extend to a full match next time if we doesn’t see a huge progress in our performance.

  9. Another dreadful performance, but at least they won.
No clear ideas of football, just a counter attack.
Leao had a good game, great finish, should have had an assist but Reijnders missed. Musah and Abraham were good of the bench, the rest were very poor.
They are so petrified from the counters after the Cagliari goal that they were pulling jerseys and arms of every Como player who had their back turned to them while running towards Maignan. 6 yellow cards and all were for the same infractions.
Speaking about Maignan. He made a good save at the end on Cutrone, but again he gives up a sof goal to the near post.
No progress seen from the team but they won.
Hopefully Atalanta beats Juventus, because it looks like the way Milan plays they will need a lot of help from the other teams to finish top 4.

    1. Yeah, clearly it looks like the coach told all the players to do that. Now we are going to be one of those teams with 5 or 6 yellow cards every game. Great.

  10. emerson was awful in the first half improved a bit in the second half still he should get 5 for the poor first half performance

  11. There are some positive changes that we’re seeing under the new coach, but I don’t think he starts cooking really until next season with proper reinforcements.

I just hope we continue grinding out results, no matter how ugly they are.

    1. I’m starting to think Conceicao might quit before the summer as he has already noticed what a huge mistake taking the job was. It’s like starting to build Rome from the scratch with just a spoon and nothing else. Helluva workload. They say “nothing is impossible”. They’re wrong though. Turning this Milan into a top-4 team is impossible.

      1. Like I’ve said, there’s a lot to unf*ck at Milan with these players but you gotta start somewhere. There are a lot of good pieces to work with, but also some reinforcements would be wise.

        1. It was an honest question. He said he sees positive changes, and I’m curious as to where. Where do you see improvement? Not in the play on the pitch. Our first halves under him have been diabolical. We’ve trailed in 3 of the 4 matches. Yes, we have made comebacks, but that was more luck than good play.

      1. Under Fonseca this team would have given up after conceding. Would have lost.

Their football overall is a lot more direct and vertical, intentional even if it doesn’t seem fluid yet. Also a lot more fight in them even if it seems erratic often. These are growing pains. But mentality change is evident.

  12. Performance surely regressed from the Cagliari game…nothing worked. Happy to take the 3 points, not so happy with half the team and how they applied themselves today. We still get easily exposed at the back and since Pioli no one has been able to fix this problem. The discipline was atrocious with all the yellow cards flying around. Poor poor game…

  13. My eyes are bleeding, but I’m happy.
This has to be one of the worst Milan games I’ve watched in a good while, but I’d rather it being a win rather than a loss.
Como was better and probably deserved to win, but you don’t win because you deserve it, you win because you go for it and honestly I’d rather see us winning in a ugly, horrendous, lucky fashion like tonight rather than playing “beautifully” with no end goal. Because in the end who cares about mental health, blood pressure, heart disease and hair over the head if we can win.
Conceição: It’s probably still too soon to comment on the coach, but the team looked like a bad draft in the first half. The positioning was all over the place and half the passes were missed. It still seems like the players don’t know what to do. But still, his subs made the difference, so kuddos.
Maignan: I feel like he could have done better on the goal, but overall he saved us from what could have been goals.
Theo: He scored a nice goal (did he intend that trajectory ?) but he also allowed a goal in, so 1-1=0. Other than that, he was pretty average today, as like the rest of the season.
Emerson: You gotta give him credit for something, the man has spirit. At some point during the game, he seemed like the only one who tried to make a difference, unfortunately for him, his skillset doesn’t match his ambition, but fortunately, he ended up in a way or another setting up attacks and even our second goal. So good job overall, even if it was a bit lucky.
Thiaw & Tomori: the pairing isn’t as good as we wanted to be, but they overall saved us from many attacks.
Gabbia: we looked somewhat more stable at moments with him. Conceição should stop benching him.
Bennacer: still rusty and it shows.
Reijnders: other than missing a sitter, he was invisible. At some point an engine needs maintenance, which in the case of a player means being replaced, rotated,… however, giving the current depth of our midfield (or lack thereoff), we seem condemned to play him until he dies from exhaustion on the pitch.
Fofana: Same things as above. I will add however, than giving what he saw tonight and last game, he should be fined each time he attempts to shoot. Man we brought you for one reason which is breaking the opposition’s legs, stick to that.
Musah: Brought some energy when he came but still average overall.
Pulisic: I’m starting to be afraid that his tendencies to be always injured are back to bite him, as us,…
Jimenez: Brought some energy as he came in, but spoiled good opportunities and overall still too reckless and too hot-headed for my liking.
Leao: In the end, the danger and a goal came from him and in this era where ou players can’t score sitters, at least he can score in a 1vs1. But he wasn’t spectacular either.
Morata: him being subbed at halftime at 0-0 despite us needing to win tells you all you need to know.
Abraham: decisive today, but with a pass.
Referee: why did Como end up with just one yellow while our players get yellow cards for each contact ?
Overall, it’s spectacular to see that after 200M€ spent by this management, we still seem to need not only midfielders, but pretty much a player (starter or sub) per position !!

    1. “Theo: He scored a nice goal (did he intend that trajectory ?) ”

      😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

      No. No he didn’t! 😀 😀 😀

  14. What a relief – first win against a “smaller” side… Hats off to Como tho – they gave us a proper battle. I think Conseicao’s the only one who didn’t get a yellow card.

    1. Como had no fear of us at all. They took it to us. They looked the faster side and more energy. Our players were quite literally grabbing and hanging on for dear life. Not good.

      1. Yep – like all these teams.. they have nothing to lose and know exactly how to play us. If Sergio can do what Pioli and Fonseca couldn’t and reverse this trend he’ll be a freaking genius.

        1. On a positive note Juve and Atalanta drew today. Another draw for Juventus. Motta is going to break the record for draws in a season. I’m glad we dodged that bullet.

        1. Yeah while Conseicao was fuming he stepped a bit too much forward from his designated area and actually had a foot or two inside on the pitch but was told to move back by one of the stewards I believe and he did. Not sure the ref saw it but if he had then he should have given him a yellow card to my knowledge.

  15. Horrific game and performance, quite lucky to get 3 points.

Very impressed with Jimenez tonight, great cameo, bravo to him!
Leao really gave his all so bravo also

Tammy I’m no big fan of but that was lovely assist, his link up play is better than Morata, should start v Juve.
Camarda looks ready to get more chances, he did well

Pulisic has not looked back to his best since injury and I think he has been rushed/over used since his return. Lets hope it is not a long term injury as he was grabbing his hamstring

Tiji has struggled so far under the new coach. I was loving his form before christmas. Hopefully he can get rest and return to form, though I’m concerned the system is not suiting him as well as when he played CM

Fofana has really burnt out, needs time off, he has been horrible last 2 games

Mike and Theo, oh dear guys, you are our top players, must do better!

Why bother mention the janitor who is filling in at RB?

      1. Oh look, it’s the obligatory Emerson sucks comment… Never gets old.
That janitor leads our team in tackles, interceptions and clearances…
If his last name was Calabria Sempre Milan would’ve given him MOTM.

        1. “That janitor leads our team in tackles, interceptions and clearances…”

And balls lost, fouls committed, most gifted goals, most sloppy passes, lost possessions after first touch, most ridiculous dives too. I don’t fng care if his lastname was van Basten but sh1t will be sh1t no matter how hard you polish it.

          1. The difference here is mine are true stats you can look up and yours are just nonsense claims that you made up in that empty head of yours with nothing to back it up.

          2. Oh and by the way, Emerson was named the actual MOTM in this game. SO deal with that. Not the completely bias Sempre Milan ratings but the actual MOTM award.
This site lost all credibility after trying to give MOTM to Calabria last match when he offered nothing offensively, was beaten by his man several times so much so that the man he was marking won the actual MOTM, was the first person yanked from the game with 30 minutes left. That screams MOTM. The person that does the ratings here is clueless and most of the comments are that of a 13 year old with learning disabilities.

          3. Winning MOTM for this game is nothing to gloat over, it’s like phoning your best mate to inform him you took gold at the special olympics.

          4. Ignore him, this guys literally only comment history is meat riding Emerson and defending the management. He hates anyone else who plays the RB spot because he’s desperate to see Emerson play there and hope he eventually does something. He’s not worth the oxygen

        2. The reason he leads in those stats is because other teams know he is our weakest link so they target him. How many crosses did he connect on? Zero. No opponent is scared when he is on the ball in the their box but when he is defending our box everyone is scared. The guy is buns, its okay to admit it. The janitor comment is an insult to janitors because at least they can clean up a mess while Emerson only creates them.

          1. Well said. I’m starting to feel bad for all those poor people who cannot see how awful that guy really is. It’s like those people keep on insisting that 1+1 is 6.

          2. I’ve cleaned up plenty of sh1t in my life (literally), so I’m not judging janitors, more that they would be an imposter.

            Your take is funny

        3. Oh look, it’s K, back with his daily sucking off of Emerson after yet another God awful performance. Are you his secret lover or something buddy? There’s no logical reason you blow him this much after being the worst player on the field every match

          1. Another super intelligent and insightful comment from Ian. I see they gave him access to the computer again at the mental hospital. Good for you kid.

        4. “The difference here is mine are true stats you can look up and yours are just nonsense claims that you made up in that empty head of yours with nothing to back it up.”

Well well well if it isn’t Emerfu’s greatest defender. You defend him better than he can actually defend lol 😅 but I digress

You’re looking for stats? All numbers I’m going to state are from Fbref for all competitions fyi. First of all you’re posting the gross amounts so it’s inappropriate to compare a player with 20 games to one with 10 for instance as a hypothetical, the one with 20 should or most likely on average have a higher running total. So that measure is flawed. I’d suggest the per 90 stat as it removes the effect of having played more games.

But for the sake of argument, let’s start with your stats first and then we’ll do mine. Emerson does have a higher gross number of tackles (players) and interceptions than everyone (it doesn’t say he won them though for # players tackled and his win percentage is not the best in the team). But as I’ve said before it doesnt really say much. Fofana has more challenges (vs dribblers) than him…sooo does that make him better ? Not necessarily. Fofana has more game time, his ratio will be worse off than Emer but he’s also not a defender too.

In addition, ever thought his stats are high because other teams have targeted him? So therefore he has to do more defensive work. He also leads the team in challenges lost. You’ve conveniently left that one out as you like to say. And he doesn’t lead the team in other defensive stats like shots blocked or passes blocked, and I could go on, trust me.

To bb’s point who you’ve accused of making stats up and perhaps there’s some heat of the moment retort in that response, it actually turns out true for some of them where you can find a stat.
          Fouls committed? Leads the team
Sloppy passes ie blocked passes? Leads the team
Lost possession after touch/unsuccessful take on: almost leads the team
I don’t know about dives and all that but don’t act like the stats says he’s some stellar defender. There was some truth to the sentiment it looks like.

And now for mine, the per 90 which I’ve laid out is a better comparator stat, guess who leads the team then? It’s your favourite… Calabria 😁😁😁🤭. That is, on a per game basis, Calabria has made more Tackles, challenges and interceptions than anyone in the team. On a per game basis compared to Emerson, Calabria has in addition to a higher interception and challenge rate, a higher tackle win rate, a higher overall tackle rate, a higher challenge rate, a higher challenge won rate, higher blocked pass and blocked shot rate, higher clearance rate, a higher successful take on rate, a higher aerial duels won rate even though he’s shorter, a higher loose ball recovery rate. Also he has a lower rate for dispossession, miscontrol and being intercepted. Pretty much mostly all the categories you can put for a defender, Calabria is better than Emerson… statistically….the very thing you like. And which everyone else except you for some ‘strange’ reason can see without even having to look at stats.

And this whole Emerson supposed to be more offensive narrative ….well stats, the thing you love soooo much says on a per game basis Calabria has a higher Shot Scoring and Goal Scoring Action than Emerson and by a good chunk too.

But even with the stats from a statistician and an explanation on why one measure is superior to the other, it wouldn’t matter to you would it? You’ve already made up your mind, haven’t you and you’ll dismiss people’s an.alysis even though it’s a better approach than your dry pull of numbers off the internet. Because it doesn’t fit your pre established narrative on Emerson being superior, despite the facts and stats you love to spew so much of but when the same facts get thrown back….well… We all know where you stand

PS…. and I don’t even like Calabria THAT much lol 😂 😂 😂. That’s the messed up part

          1. Mic. Dropped.

Thank you. This post of yours should be pinned to all articles on this site as it’s probably the best “burn” of all times here. Kudos to that. Excellent work. Nothing to add.

          2. “I was tempted to do the research but didn’t bother”

I knew I was 100% right so I didn’t NEED to look for confirmation anywhere. It was so bloody obvious to anyone with a brain. 🙂

          3. Well that’s a lot of work to put in to not refute anything I said. I said he leads the team in tackles, interceptions and clearances. And he does.

You also left out that Emerson has a higher pass completion % than Calabria in short , medium and long passes.
Calabria has a higher percentage of tackles lost per 90.
Emerson has higher shot blocks and pass blocks per 90 as well.
Were you hoping no one would check?

“In addition, ever thought his stats are high because other teams have targeted him? So therefore he has to do more defensive work.”
Again more unproven theories. The majority of goals scored against us comes from Theo’s side, just like the game yesterday. Everyone know our left side is the weak defensive side with Theo and Leao. Who are you trying to fool here.

A for effort tho buddy. Good to know I make such an impression on you.

        5. Exactly as I predicted and and as I wrote. It’s so easy to read you. Throw the stats back at you and you do your usual mental gymnastics schtick. If you can’t face the heat don’t stay in the kitchen buddy
This is the reason why no one respects your opinion on this forum. As the others said, why waste their time on you. You b!tchmoan and complain that people don’t respond to you with substance and proper arguments yet when you do get one you can’t even respond with substance yourself or try to weasel your way out with absolute nonsense. Passing rate ? For a defender? Yes next time we go looking for a defender I’ll check out their passing hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Maybe that’s what Moncada looks for in a defender….no wonder why we’re in this me.ss. Thanks for wasting everyone’s time.

It’s funny how you still stick to your original flawed talking points as I’ve already addressed, it’s why proper discourse isn’t possible with you. You seem to want to engage at the same time but have to hold back knowing very well you don’t have a solid ground to stand on.
And because I’m not like you I can admit the blocked passes stat was incorrect. So that’s what 2 or 3 out of the 10 or so stats he’s ahead of for defending?? And Emerfu got way more game time under his belt. I like how you’re now pointing out the per 90 stat for those btw and like the hypocrite that you are refuse to acknowledge the per 90 for interceptions, challenges and tackles being superior for Calabria…it literally proves my point.

  16. Haven’t done rating for ages but now is the perfect time to start.

Maignan 6. Game saver on Cutrone saved a lot. Should have done better with the goal.

Emerson 3. 4 first passes straight out of play or to opponents. Had commited 3 fouls before 12 minutes. Probably had pass accuracy of less than 50%. Obviously tried to break the record for “most lost balls in a match”. Probably succeeded in that too.

    Tomori 5.

    Thiaw 5.

Hernandez 5. Lucky goal that boosted his rating.

    Bennacer 3. Sloppy. Can’t do sh1t after the half-line.

Fofana 4. Needs a rest. Probably gets a warning against Juve and will be suspended after that and hopefully regains his form.

Reijnders 3. Should have scored from his 1vs1.

    Pulisic 5.

    Morata 3.

Leao 4. Without the goal he would have deserved a 3.

Zlatan & Moncada should be busy trying to salvage this season by buying half a team this month. Even Como-players looked like world champions next to our pathetic group.

    1. Ridiculous comment about Rafa, LOL. You scold Reijnders for missing a sitter. Guess who sent him the sugar-coated ball? Rafa. Did the same for Fofana and for Jimenez. Got positioned nicely to score but Isma and Jimenez failed to serve him. Basically all dangerous actions that should have been scores except for Theo’s goal, came from him. And he scored. Won the game for us, again. MOTM. You’re just a hater.

      1. A lot of people judge Leao like they are play FIFA. The only thing I disliked about his performance was when a ball was played to him and it wasn’t to his liking or over hit he would turn around and mean mug his teammate.

        1. By the way I was wrong. He also participated in Theo’s goal although just a bit: he won that corner kick that started it.

I couldn’t care less about Rafa’s body language. Some people here complain of it. For me he could have a body language ten times worse and I wouldn’t care at all as long as he keeps winning games for us like he did today (and many other times).

  17. Maignan got beat at the near post (again). He was cheating to his right, getting ready to block off that far post shot, and left too much of a gap for the near post shot.
    Not a good move

  18. Good result, poor performance. Como were the better team for 70 minutes, if not the entire match. There were some nice moments of well coordinated pressing by us, but other than that, nothing much to write home about. Still 3 points are 3 points, and these leave us still fighting for a CL spot.

      1. This year he’s got sub-par PSxG/90. For my taste he’s also not very good on crosses, doesn’t come out of the goal when he needs to sometimes in my opinion.
Maybe a reason is poor coaching. He was great when we had Dida as a goalkeeping coach. Since he left it’s all been downhill for Maignan.

  19. Leao easily the best player today. Nice goal and should have had an assist. Fofana was terrible again. He needs a break and needs to stop shooting. Emerson was horrendous as usual. Tomori should not be starting over Gabbia. Hope Puli isn’t hurt too bad. Lucky 3 points.

  20. We played very poorly for 67 minutes. After Gabbia came in we seemed to wake up and we got 2 goals; Gabbia participated in one of them. He needs to start. Then we played well for 17 minutes until minute 85 up to 94 when Como started trying hard to draw. So the game had 95 minutes (first half, 46). We played well for 17 minutes and poorly for 78 minutes. Not good.

Mike, another failure on his left near post which happens often. Did save 3 shots but I still see it as a negative. 5

Emerson, almost conceded a goal early on, rescued by Theo. Improved in second half. 5.5

Thiaw, solid as usual but a reckless tackle with prevents me from giving him more than a pass. 6

    Tomori, shaky, 5.5

Theo, saved a certain goal early on, conceded one later; that cancels one another. Scored on a volley; I don’t really think it was unintentional. He also produced a very good cross to Morata who whiffed. I see it as overall positive, more than just a pass because he scored and could have had an assist. 7

Fofana MUST stop trying to score. He’s not good at it and it just wastes an attack. Another bad game. Rafa set him up nicely and as usual he produced a weak shot. In another attempt, sent it a mile off target. 5

Reijnders missed a huge sitter on a cross by Rafa. Didn’t do much else. 5

Bennacer still off shape but less bad than the other two while he played. 5.5

Puli not effective tonight and unfortunately got a muscle injury. 5.5

Morata, very pale display and missed a good opportunity set up by Theo. 5

Rafa, MOTM. Great cross to Fofana who spoiled it. Great quasi-assist to Reijnders that should have been a score but the latter missed the sitter. Rafa got poor service twice; positioned himself nicely but Isma overshot him; did it again but Jimenez the ball hog didn’t pass it to him. Then he set up Jimenez who was slow and allowed the keeper to close the angle. When Rafa finally got good service, he scored. Rafa also sacrificed himself with a smart tactical foul that got him a yellow but it prevented an equalizer. So Rafa deserved more than one assist, scored, and stopped a good counter by Como; one of his best games. 8

    Subs:

Gabbia came in with energy, participated in the first goal. Must start. Conceição needs to realize that Gabbia is a starter. 7

Jimenez tried hard but not effectively, remains impulsive. However, was energetic and I’ll give him a pass. 6

Musah also had good energy, did nothing wrong. A pass, 6

Abraham redeemed himself for the two missed sitters against Cagliari with a decisive assist. 7

Camarda, not enough for a vote.

Mister Conceição, his Milan had another bad game but the subs did add something. He needs to realize that Gabbia needs to start; he needs to get his goalkeeper coach to work on Mike’s left-sided near post; needs to find a solution for RB and to fix other chronic shortcomings but his Milan has earned 10 points out of 12 so it’s mostly positive for someone who jumped on a sinking ship. Today just a pass as the team was pretty bad for the vast majority of the game. 6

  21. Como goal was mostly Theo’s fault?
Is this the same like Cagliari’s goal being mostly Fofana fault?
I thought Maignan is the best in the world. 2 goals conceded that a best GK in the world should absolutely save, but lets blame everyone else. I’m surprised Emerson wasn’t blamed for the goal.
Hey , at least Leao scored and matched Saelemaekers goal tally on the season. 👏👏. That’s a good thing, u guess.
Awful game, but I see that the conversation is all about Emerson even though the goal came thru Theo’s side and Maignan’s near post.
Defensively Milan left side is worse than Milan right side no matter who plays as a RB, Emerson, Calabria, Terracciano, Florenzi, inebriated fan, don’t matter.
    Forza Milan

    1. You forgot to mention the assists (well no, you didn’t forget; you’re just trolling again). Rafa now has 13 goal participations. Only second to Puli (15)

      1. Oh I forgot to mention to whopping 4 assists he has on the season so far. My apologies Rafa fanboy.
That means he is on pace to have 8 g and 8 assists this season. Give him the Ballon Dor now, don’t wait for December.
        Pathetic

        1. Our coach said he will be on e of the best in the world by the end of season. Fingers crossed eh, nice to see him going the right way

  22. Maignan is a great GK but it is worrying how many times he let a goal in from his near post.
That goal definitely more on his responsibility.

And morata? He’s should stop trying to hard to cosplay as inzaghi.
He falls everytime someone touch him.
But in inzaghi case he can draw out fouls and scores.
While morata can only whine and complaint to the ref.

  23. They just have to sh!t on Emerson no matter what. That’s their target this season because he’s a new signing and he’s keeping the amazing Maldini, I mean Calabria on the bench.
Meanwhile Theo is responsible for more goals conceded than all the rest of our defenders combined but , yeah, it’s all Emerson’s fault.

      1. Why do I defend him? Because he’s the best option we have at RB right now and two different coaches have come to that conclusion. So the constant ridiculing by the Calabria fanboys is tired and what’s the point of it? We all know we need a better RB but he’s the best we have right now. Not to mention this idiotic site and their bias in the ratings.
Emerson was literally named the MOTM today and they give him a 5.5 on here and all the little trolls want to trash him. Football Italia gave him a 6.5. This site and the small minded trolls on here are ridiculous.

        1. Literally go read any comment on the post about him on the front page kiddo. Literally everyone here but you recognizes he’s useless. Grow up

          1. Yeah, because there are some really brilliant football minds hiding in here. I’m sure they know more than the professionals. I said it before, I’ll say it again, this comment section more resembles One Flew Over the Cukoo’s nest than it does any kind of intelligent football discussion. Look no further than Ian’s and BB’s comments to see what I mean.

          2. ” Look no further than Ian’s and BB’s comments to see what I mean.”

LOL. In fact, look a bit further. About two-three posts below mine where IKWYDLS gives the “reply of the year” with his FACTS. Doesn’t look too good on K’s pathetic whining now does it? 😀 😀 😀 😀

    1. If you remember, Calabria was “the target” last season so no one wants Calabria. Everyone is upset because management replaced a weak link with another weak link. The team on the whole is playing poorly but Emerson’s poor play is evident on both ends while Theo’s is mainly defensive and he doesn’t get a winger or midfielder to watch his back as Emerson requires.

    2. Emerson almost caused us a goal in the first half which was saved by guess who ? Theo
In the second half, at the dying moment of the game, he allowed a cross who just beat Jimenez to go infront of him almost causing a draw if Como was better at finishing.
Emerson is just lucky to not be behind more goals that’s it.

    3. You are weird. Nobody has any personal agenda with Emerson, nor is it to do with Calabria, it’s because he is horribly poor.

Certainly it is very annoying management went out and spent money on him. Kalulu is actually the guy would should be our RB and Calabria his deputy.

Even if we sign the best right back in the world I would have Calabria as back up over Emerson every day. Why on earth you continue to defend a terrible player that is nowhere near good enough for Milan is beyond any sane persons mind.

I also think RLC is horrible, whats my bias there? oh yeah its because he is terrible!!
      Grow up man!

      1. Well, at least we can agree on one thing that we should have kept Kalulu and made him our starting RB but I’ve been saying that for years.

Emerson is not horribly poor, in fact he was named MOTM today, so maybe you are judging him harsher than others and have some bias,
Again, nobody has an answer as to why two different professional coaches now who see both of these players everyday prefer Emerson over Calabria. Don’t be offended if I choose their judgement over yours.
        He’s better than Calabria. Period.

        1. Uh no, he wasnt rafa got motm, clown boy. And emerson isn’t gonna magically become good because you keep screaming it on every post. He’s garbage and the worst player here. Get over it you infant

          1. Oh god, someone explain to this deranged little boy, that as I said, Emerson won the actual MOTM award, not the fake one given out by this completely bias rating site. His reading comprehension is as bad as his idiotic comments would suggest.

      2. This guy’s literal only purpose on this site is to get mad that people are pointing out how bad Emerson is. It’s honestly kind of pathetic

    4. You are the biggest joke on this site. Good lord clown boy, give it a REST. He’s the worst player at the club, nobody cares thatbyou don’t like that, it’s reality. Get over it and grow up already. He was AWFUL. AGAIN

      1. I’m not either. I’m pro Milan. I don’t think Emerson is the answer but I think he’s the best option we have at the moment and he gives his best effort every match unlike some people on the team. It’s that simple.
It’s just so silly the hate on here. It doesn’t matter how he plays, the result of the match, he played well when we beat Real Madrid, he played ok when we beat Inter, it doesn’t matter, the first comments no matter what are Emerson sucks! It’s just so dumb and pointless I feel the need to defend him. And I don’t even think he’s that good.
As for Calabria, he’s been done for years now. Florenzi was better than he was last season.

        1. Wasted effort. Truly the difference between Calabria and Emerson is too minuscule to defend. Emerson tries, really heart, bless his heart, but he just isn’t very good. And Calabria won’t improve above what we’ve already seen from him.

Pro Milan stance is, neither one of them is good enough for this team.

          1. Neither are good enough for Milan? Mate 90% of this squad isn’t good enough for Milan, including our world class GK who you say his “errors are far and apart”.

The point is picking the best from what you got. I would say Emerson is a midtable level RB (say Fiorentina level). Calabria doesn’t fit serie a with his form in the recent two years

          2. You’re right, mate. Calabria is better when attacking, but, isn’t that good defensively, anymore. Emerson Royal is a waste of money. No attacking input, doesn’t know what to do with the ball most of the time, and keeps falling like a cut tree. Whoever gave him MOTM for this game must be out their mind. A lot fans, who knew him at Tottenham, didn’t support his signing. At the end of the season, we will need to get a decent right-back to replace him. I just cut 2 hours of my sleep time to watch the relay on Supersport. Just the same fuming, watching his game, as when I watched it live on my phone. Tomori did a lot of covering for him yesterday. We can’t have other players with one eye on his position, every game. He’s a timebomb. We will see that soon when we get through the group stages of the Champions league.

  24. Guys look cooked. They just flew back from the tournament in S. Arabia where they played against Juve and Inter in span of 3 days. I’m also sure Conceiçao is giving them hard time on trainings, making them spill their guts out.

We need concrete deputies for Reijnders and Fofana this winter. Cause they won’t be able to carry this team until the end of the season like this. They’re a overworked and it’s evident with injuries piling up again. Puli, Thiaw and Morata out.

    1. 100% The schedule is congested. Games every 3 days. No quality rotation for Reijnders and Fofana. no killer striker up front.

If we’re lucky, Conceicao literally drags up up to top4, one ugly win at a time. I don’t think he’ll really get a chance to cook until next season, depending on the reinforcements.

We’re half way through January and outside of signing Okafor again, there have been no reinforcements so far. SO much for support from management.

      1. I’d take ugly win week in week out if it gets us to top4 and give Conceicao a full preseason with lads. We need stability and discipline and somehow I feel Sergio is the man to give us that.

    1. Totally. Conceição did bring from Porto a goalkeeping coach. Let’s hope he works on this with Mike. We’ve been conceding too many near post goals.

  25. Part of what’s been negative may be partially due to exhaustion. 4 games in a few days, two of them against our biggest rivals, in another continent. A big effort against Cagliari marred by three missed sitters, then 3 days later, away at Como. Fofana and Reijnders look gassed, and we collected another muscle injury.

    ———–

Guys, this will sound like a joke but I swear that it is true. The Panini Man of the Match was Emerson Royal! Unreal! Totally undeserved, but I guess he got it because it’s his birthday today.

    ————

Juve dropped two more points so we got closer to them, only 3 points below them and with a game in hand. They didn’t lose to Atalanta (1-1 draw) exclusively because of Di Gregorio who produced some unreal saves. Kalulu scored for them and played well. I miss him. We should never have shipped him out to Juve in order to get Emerson.

    1. Or maybe you guys are completely bias when it comes to him…
Emerson gets beat 1 time and is solid other than that and wins MOTM and everyone trashes him, all anyone talks about is the one time he got beat.

Calabria makes one good tackle, gets beat several times, the man he was marking wins man of the match, he is the first person subbed off and you all rave about what a “great game” he had. Yeah, no bias here at all.

  26. A lot to work on. Hopefully the injuries aren’t that serious. Great game by Leao and a much needed three points. It’s always nice to see him vary his attack. If he does this more often, he will reach a new level. He needs to receive the ball from positions other than the left touchline and he needs to keep making runs off the ball to get on the end of passes and crosses (he is a decent header of the ball). He is only 25 and there are many areas which he can still improve.

  27. Conceição’s post game interview is encouraging because he showed very good understanding of the team’s shortcomings despite the victory. When I listen to him I get the impression that he knows what he is doing and what he wants from the team is correct. I never had the same impression when listening to Fonseca.

Also, even though the team continues to have chronic shortcomings, there are two things to consider: 1) it’s hard for a new coach who joined mid-season to have an impact because it’s not his mercato; the team is not built for his ideas. 2) for a team to come from behind to win, 3 times out of 4 games, one needs to respect the attitude this coach seems to have brought to the team. Under Fonseca the team seemed despondent when falling behind; Conceição’s Milan fights back. No, it wasn’t pretty, but this team is not giving up like Fonseca’s did.
    ————
Only now we completed 19 league games. This means that only now we finished the first half of the domestic season. There is plenty of time to make top four.

  28. What absolute trash. Terrible terrible game. But 3 points so….yay I guess
I really hope Conceicao has more solutions to these low block teams than what I’ve seen so far because right now this ain’t working. But still only second real game in charge. His face has a bewildered look of wtf is wrong with these guys.

I have to watch the goal again but why was Mike absolved from letting in a relatively tame shot in on his near post? Second game in a row now some shaky stuff.

Speaking of shaky that Emerson failed first pass and coach shaking his head was just hilarious. Wonder if ppl caught it. But at the same time he fielded him sooo…he cant be that upset. I feel with Calab on his way out, management probably has told the coach to field Emerfu because I fail to see how he’s any better defensively and offensively than Calab and this game showed it. Emerfu got roasted by Fadera on the wing time and time again and twice let a dangerous crosses that ran almost the entire pen box (center backs also to blame there too).
Anyways burn the tape and start anew for next game.

    1. “Speaking of shaky that Emerson failed first pass and coach shaking his head was just hilarious. Wonder if ppl caught it.”

Oh I saw it! It won’t take long for the Mister to recognize what he needs to do here. Probably Yildiz will exploit our biggest weakness on Saturday and after that… No more Brazilian RB.

  29. HAha. More conspiracy theories as to why all the coaches prefer Emerson.
Meanwhile, I wish I could see your head explode when you find out Emerson won MOTM today.
Seems quite a few people see things differently than you.
Again no mention of who was actually responsible for the goal conceded today…

        1. This means that you are wrong for all days of the year except on the four days, one per quarter, on which you agree with me.

They say that even a broken clock is right twice a day. It’s amazing that you are right only four times per year.

    1. Aaaayyy well look who it is that showed up to miss the reply button and have poor reading comprehension skills once more (hint: you missed the goal conceded part…it was addressed).
Head explode ? Trying to get revenge for Calabria’s MOTM? 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 How unoriginal and frankly quite sad. I see the meltdown is still occuring so I’ll leave you be..

    2. I know, all coaches are stupid right? Clearly fans here who have seen san siro only from pictures know better.

Calabria, because he is Italian, should play every match. He even was our hero just last match, against f’ing Cagliari, where he was chosen by the brightest football minds as man of the match. How can any coach bench him after such a heroic world class performance? Clearly, Conceicao doesn’t know anything

  30. Guys, someone find a better Milan site than this and introduce it to K so that he leaves here ASAP

First 20 minutes alone I was laughing my ass off every time his step daddy Emmerson made a mistake, which might have been more than 10 times.

Other than that, one of our biggest problems is that Reijnders is playing terrible football for a few matches now.

Conceicao needs time to work so the team get the high press right, but I absolutely approve of the direct, vertical play and fast counters. This is the way this team should play.

    1. Reijnders and Fofana are overworked. They need rest. But there are no proper alternatives for these two although most of the money spent in last two seasons went into midfield. Sad.

  31. Dreadful game, but Ill focus on some positives. Thiaw is solid as rock, happy he wasnt sold in the summer. He will be strong. Gabbia was great off the bench. And at least everything Leao did on the ball was good. But he was isolated quite well from a tactically well organised Como.

Such a hard league to be pre-favorites. The blocks are amazing. We need a striker, and a CAM. I actually miss brahim….

  32. On the goal –

Yes, protecting your near post is elementary goalkeeping. I’ve wrote this here several times before. Mike is the best in the world with the ball at his feet, but as a pure shot stopper he is average at best, if not below that. People treat him like he’s the best in the world because that’s what they read. It’s nonsense.

Buffon or any gk worth mentioning from the past, never let so many easy goals. Dollarumma himself in his first pro year made 1-2 howlers a season. With Mike it’s every three games or so.

But Theo, as much as I love the guy, also shares the blame. Dude cannot block a shot in the box if his life depended on it. This was also true against Cagliari as well Juve. Seriously, any opponent that plays against us should always take a shot when facing Theo in the box. 99% of the time it would go through.

  33. a very bad game..the only exception is leao
give two assists in first half , lost by collegues and scored the winner after great run

  34. It’s not like Panini Player Of The Match is chosen by experts. The winner is chosen by an online public vote. It was probably his family and friends spamming cause it’s his birthday. Nothing more to see here, move along.

  35. My rating:

    Maignan: 6
    Emerson: 5,5
    Tomori: 6
    Thiaw: 6
    Theo: 5,5
    Rejinders: 5
    Fofana: 5,5
    Bennacer: 5
    Pulisic: 5,5
    Morata: 5
    Leao: 6,5

    Jimenez: 5,5
    Abraham: 6

  36. Emerson with Serie A MVP of the game. What did he do to earn that? He had birthday first and foremost. I was counting errors in the first half, I quickly gave up, absolutely dreadful. What did he do well? He did show an increase in fight after going down. This did help with the overall turnaround. I can’t help to notice he lacks control and he can’t cross a ball to save his own life as someone here put it so nicely. All in all, not the worst from him. He’s got decent speed when he wants to, a second half to build on, but we need someone long term to give this competition, and preferably an upgrade on the present.

    1. I read that Emerson had 50 touches and 25 of them were wrong, which is a HUGE index. For him to win MOTM is a bad joke. Obviously he only won because it was his birthday.
