AC Milan fell to their third league defeat in a row and ninth in the table as they were beaten 2-1 by Lazio at San Siro on Sunday night.
When it rains, it pours for Milan at the moment. After battling back from a goal down and a man down to equalise late on through Samuel Chukwueze, a controversial penalty was awarded deep into added time which allowed Pedro to win it.
The Rossoneri have said goodbye to any hopes of being in the Champions League next season and perhaps goodbye to European football in general, unless they win the Coppa Italia which would gain a place in the Europa League.
The newspaper player ratings
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport has their ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance and Sergio Conceicao’s management, both of which earned a score of 5 out of 10.
Tijjani Reijnders was deemed the best performer for the Rossoneri, getting a 6.5, while Strahinja Pavlovic’s controversial red card means he got a 4.5.
Alex Jimenez and Theo Hernandez struggled in a very poor first half, with each receiving a 4.5. Mike Maignan, Yunus Musah and Santiago Gimenez were given a 5.
A 5.5 went to Christian Pulisic and Joao Felix, and a passing score was awarded to Matteo Gabbia, Youssouf Fofana, Rafael Leao and Kyle Walker. Samuel Chukwueze (6.5) joins Reijnders as the only one to be praised.
Corriere dello Sport agree that Jimenez (4) was the worst player on the field, also giving the same score to Musah who was hauled off before half-time.
Pavlovic got a 4.5, while Maignan, Gabbia, Theo, Pulisic and Gimenez were scored half a point more. Fofana, Reijnders and Leao received a 5.5, then Walker, Joao Felix and Thiaw a 6, plus Chukwueze a 6.5.
Seems like Reijnders gets praise these days no matter how invisible he is.
He was the lone midfielder after the withdrawal of Fofana, and was running relentlessly the entire game. Deserved praise.
Running and working with nothing to show for. Only missplaced passes and poor decisions. And he should have done soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better with his scoring chance. And let’s not forget the guy cannot defend. Has anyone ever seen him steal the ball from an opponent?
The Reijnders factor.
Play a few good games, and then go invisible in alot of games. But still be considered one of the best midfielders in Europe and constantly get high ratings.
Enigmatic I know🤷♂️🤷♂️
Defeated in match is acceptable if all the players and coach giving his 100% for this red and black shirt.
…..
Forza Milan
Redbird out
Agreed.
Though that would be a paradox if one thinks about it well enough.
If they truly gave their all, they would win said matches🤔🤔. I know not all efforts end in success, and one can plan well and have the best ingredients but a few bullets in the batter ruins the meal so to say.
Controversial red car….it was a clear foul of Pavlovic, he didnt touch the ball
And also, he was the last man
It was 100% a red card
Agreed. Just an excuse to blame the refs for a 100% correct red card.
At time Alex Jimenez plays as a fullback, he is among the worst on the pitch with little to no success in literally every duel against wingers (remember how he also cost us the Coppa Italia last season against Atalanta). At the same time, whenever he is placed as a winger, he is among the best in the field. It’s a no-brainer situation, isn’t it? Use his skills properly or just send him back to Real and open room for yet another “revolution”. Kalulu also didn’t arrive as a CB and Pirlo was an AM before Ancelotti.
Exatly. Musah is absolutely useless in the attack and/or with the ball. Yet he is constantly played as a RW. Jimenez cannot defend even if his life depended on it. Yet he plays as a RB these days.
Now why did I say this? Oh I dunno, maybe you can figure it out… 😛
“Tijjani Reijnders was deemed the best performer for the Rossoneri, getting a 6.5”
Holy , didn’t realize he played lol 😂. I guess 6.5 for being a cone a better than actually playing yesterday.
So Chukwueze gets 6.5 for both papers but the guy that set it up on a platter is chop Suey lol 😂 ok
very biased rating
Jimenez and Musah should come off the bench to provide energy and fresh legs when needed. Neither is worthy to start. Musah should have scored at least one goal by now.
