AC Milan are through to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia after they beat Roma 3-1 in an entertaining game at San Siro on Wednesday night.

Tammy Abraham provided a one-two punch in the first half by scoring a brilliant header and finishing off a swift counter-attack, though Artem Dovbyk scored early in the second half to spark some nerves among the home crowd.

Nonetheless, Santiago Gimenez and Joao Felix made their debut off the bench and in dream fashion they linked up for the goal that killed the tie, with the former putting the latter through on goal and the finish being applied with a chip.

The player ratings

Starting with La Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings, they gave Milan’s overall performance a 7 out of 10, the same score that they awarded to the head coach Sergio Conceicao for his management of proceedings.

Man of the match went to Tammy Abraham who received a score of 8 for his brace, while Christian Pulisic was highlighted as the one who perhaps looked a bit off the pace compared to his usual high standards, getting a 6.

Mike Maignan, Kyle Walker, Youssouf Fofana and Alex Jimenez were the other players who got a 6, as did Rafael Leao off the bench.

Fikayo Tomori, Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders were given a 6.5, while Strahinja Pavlovic and Theo Hernandez got half a point more. The substitutes Santiago Gimenez (6.5) and Joao Felix (7.5) made a great impression.

Corriere dello Sport also gave Abraham the title of best player with a 7.5 rating, while Reijnders struggled the most in their eyes and got a 6.

Walker, Musah, Pulisic and Leao got a 6 too, with Maignan, Tomori, Fofana, Jimenez and Gimenez getting 6.5. Pavlovic and Joao Felix received a 7, while Theo matched Abraham’s 7.5.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) was not as convinced by everyone’s performance. They were harsher on Mike Maignan (rating 5.5), Kyle Walker (rating 5.5) and Tijjani Reijnders (rating 5.5).

The undisputed MVP of the match was Abraham (rating 7.5), Theo Hernandez also did well (7), while new signings Santiago Gimenez and Joao Felix got the same as the Frenchman.

  1. Totally unfair ratings.
There is no way Pulisic was the worst player, he did his job defensively and offensively he could have gotten an assist. Not his greatest game but not a bad one either.
Jimenez deserves more than a 6, perhaps even 7. The kid was huge offensively yesterday and also could have gotten an assist if Théo controlled that ball better and started many good counter-attacks. No way he was worse than Musah and as good/bad as Fofana.
Fofana deserves the best the worst rated player. Musah was good by his standards but I think 6 is fairer. The midfield was our weakest link yesterday.
I thought Tomori was the better CB yesterday and deserves a 7. He had more positive impact than Reijnders, Musah or even Pavlović.

    1. Exactly wrt Pulisic. Plus I think he’s coming off an injury. It takes times to get up to speed. But he always puts in a shift.
Agreed with the rest as usual

  2. I hope Abraham continues to score goals because it will be good for the team as it will take pressure off of Gimenez to score goals and it will give him time to settle into a new league and team.

As for the ratings I think it’s a bit harsh to rate Pulisic so low.
