AC Milan’s fate was sealed with a 3-1 defeat to Roma: they will not play in any European competitions in the 2025-26 season.
Roma took the lead early on and in truth it was a gift for Gianluca Mancini, who headed in a corner from close range virtually unopposed. Then, Milan went down to 10 men as Santiago Gimenez swung an elbow at the centre-back and was punished after a VAR review.
Joao Felix equalised for the Rossoneri as they ended the first half on top, but then Leandro Paredes and Bryan Cristante each scored with shots from distance to ensure that the hosts took the three points.
Roma vs. AC Milan: Player ratings
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has their player ratings from the game, starting with the team’s overall performance and Sergio Conceicao’s management of the game, both of which earned a score of 5 out of 10.
The scorer Joao Felix was the brightest spark and got a 6.5, while Gimenez was awarded the lowest score (4) after what was an ultimately disastrous 20 minutes on the field ending with his sending off.
Fikayo Tomori, Strahinja Pavlovic, Yunus Musah and Rafael Leao (who came off the bench) were all given a 5. Mike Maignan was suspect for the goals from distance and got a 5.5.
Matteo Gabbia, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjani Reijnders, Alex Jimenez, Christian Pulisic, Youssouf Fofana and Luka Jovic got a 6.
Corriere dello Sport meanwhile were even harsher on Gimenez, giving him a 4, while his nemesis for the night Mancini received their man of the match award and a score of 7.
Joao Felix (7), Jimenez (6.5) and Pulisic (6.5) were the only ones to get any praise. Gabbia, Pavlovic, Fofana and Reijnders got a passing grade of 6. Maignan, Musah, Loftus-Cheek, Leao and Jovic were given a 5.5, with Tomori awarded a 5.
